Current Events > Elden Ring vs. The Witcher 3?

With all the buzz around Elden Ring, I am pretty interested in trying it out. I have never played a Dark Souls game or anything else by FromSoftware though. Looks like Witcher 3 is probably the most similar game I have played? How does Elden Ring compare? I have heard that the combat in games like Dark Souls (and Elden Ring I assume) are a lot harder, in The Witcher I can get through most battles with minimal strategy, just spam the shield spell and the fast attack button. The story seems to be the main driver in Witcher, not really the gameplay.

How is the inventory system and progression in Elden Ring? With The Witcher 3, it seems a bit much with so many different potions, crafting, oils, your skill tree, buying armor, do you sell your inventory or convert to materials, etc. Not much tutorial on this stuff, but it doesn't seem too terribly important in the game, I can make it through with just the basic potions and oils, and really only focus on the Witcher school gear.

I have played through Monster Hunter World also, which I guess is similar to these games too

They're not really similar. I love Witcher 3 but it's strong points don't translate to Souls game and vice versa. Witcher is mostly about the story and dialogue, Souls is more about the challenge and world design.

You're setting yourself up to not like a game when you expect the exact opposite of what it's trying to do. And that's what would be happening with this lack of real insight. Look into it more if you're not sure

Combat is too simple and stiff to be the GOAT in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I still love it.

Yeah but if you wanted a story with rich dialogues and characters, Witcher 3 is hard to beat. This is why TC should really educate himself before he makes a decision because liking the Witcher 3 doesn't necessarily mean you'll like Elden Ring

I've played through Monster Hunter World and Breath of the Wild too, which seem a little similar?

MHW and BOTW are even less similar than ER and W3

Not really, but at least moving in the right challenging combat direction with Monster Hunter
