How can you not afford the travel?

Get your ticket & hotel well in advance and a week vacation to Paris is less than 1,000 bucks.

Living expenses, having kids, and getting ready to buy a house soon definitely will stop me from going to Paris. I dont even know if ill ever make it there.

I was an Uber driver before. Rideshare drivers dont really make much bank after all the expenses of maintaining your car unless you get all rides with surge pricing. Its decent extra money though from a main job.

Many people can't afford to travel, but many people also vastly overestimate how much it costs, and/or prioritize other luxury items/events (which is fine!). I mean I see people on this board who think a week or two in Europe costs "thousands of dollars."

its called budget traveling, staying in hostels, shared rooms, cooking meals instead of eating out. some backpackers work in hostels in exchange for free food and accommodation.

i stayed in a SF hostel recently and met a lot of foreign travelers doing that.

just to give you an idea of the cost to travel per day on a budget in the USA, $30-60/day and includes accommodation, food, transportation and sightseeing

i prefer to travel in countries where my money goes a long way. I was just looking up a month stay in Bali Indonesia for only $200/month for a private room, access to the kitchen, wifi. Eating out at a local place costs $1-2 per meal.

lmao. 30-60 dollars doesn't even cover gas for a day.

thats why I said its $30-60 on a budget. European back packers who travel in the USA usually rent out a camper van and split the cost, sleeping at rest stops to save money on having to stay in campgrounds and they dont just come and travel for 2 weeks. They travel 2-3 months in the USA and they travel slow in order to prevent burning cash. They can visit all national parks for with the $80 national parks pass which is a great deal

Lisbon is a very walkable city. Its gorgeous with some amazing viewpoints. I was only there 4 days. But I suggest doing a daytrip out of Lisbon. I only had time for 1 daytrip outside lisbon and I went to Sintra. But if youre there for 7 days in Lisbon you can do 2 day trips.

i suggest taking the tram and visit the many viewpoints of the city. Visit Belem. I didnt get a chance to go across that huge red bridge and visit the Christ statue but it might be worth checking out.

enjoy it man, eating out is pretty affordable. Just walk around, take it slow take in all the sights. stop by a cafe, sit out in front of the cafe and get an espresso and eat pastries. they even serve beer at McDonalds

Because in other countries, McDonalds is considered an actual job with a decent wage and vacation time, and workers have organisations that seek to educate them of their rights and to act as a disciplinary body that fucks companies like McDonalds in the ass if they infringe on those rights.

Uber may be similar, where outside of the US they can't pull the same "contractor" loophole stuff to avoid treating their drivers however they want. I'm pretty sure in some countries, Uber drivers are legally recognised as employees of Uber, meaning that Uber have to act in accordance with labor laws and worker's rights.

It also helps that because corporations aren't entirely fucking working class people in the ass the way they do in America - at least, not yet - people are more in a position to save money due to reasonable rent and healthcare services that don't bankrupt them. They also tend to get vacation days, meaning that they can get paid while they're visiting the USA.

This idea that America is the greatest and most free nation on Earth doesn't mean jack shit when your working class are working to make rent for 60 years before they retire with pennies in their pocket, while anything above middle class is sitting on a warchest of generational wealth, cushy jobs and more political influence than they should have. For most of the US, you're free to eat shit and die, and that's about it. At least in countries with "socialism" like affordable healthcare, labor unions and worker's rights, we get weeks of paid vacation leave at a time and the freedom to go wherever and do whatever we want.

That one I know why

I know people who work in the food industry and they told me that in Europe, the standards for ingredients are stricter than in the USA.

Example: The gummy worms sent to Europe are different from the ones sent to the USA. The ones sent to Europe have the natural coloring and the ones sent to the USA have all these different dyes and food coloring in them.

Eh, I mean a few years ago when the UN did a survey of the American South they found conditions you'd only find in third world countries. Primarily in areas where racial minorities were the majority of the population.

And then when they wanted to expand the scope of the survey citing initial conclusions, the government kicked them out.

The reality where hostels are dirt cheap and you can get round trip tickets for $300-600 at the right times? Like I said, certainly not everyone can do it, but more can than they think. I definitely know people who say they can't afford to travel but spend tons of money on new clothes, games, going out, etc. It's a matter of what you prioritize for your leisure time and money as much as anything (for people who have any leisure time and money, granted)
