If you see it coming, you're prepared to do what you must do to Not Care About Not Work and simply work on the business.

That's the easy part.

The hard part is when it comes to networking. But you'll have time to think about that one.

Or you could act like an adult, treat them like they're a human being, and address them by the pronouns they prefer.

You address people using 3rd person pronouns to their face? Weird. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to either call them by name or use 2nd person pronouns (you/your/yours/yourself) when speaking directly to them?

Ah, but the society we live in divides those beings into binary categories. Someone Decided that, and Someone Else Decided differently. To whom are you more loyal, the Decider or the Rebel?

The Constitution... does not care. Neither does the Civil Rights Act. You may not treat a man differently at work because he is a Rebel against what the Decider says about men. And you may not treat a woman differently at work because she is a Rebel against what the Decider says about women.

Yeah, LOL, it's so damned easy. I'm friends with three non-binary people, and each of them is great. People are generally chill about screwing up as long as you correct yourself. One of them I just learned was non-binary after knowing them in college years ago. I misgendered them, then I hit myself on the head and corrected myself, and they laughed.
Though my bestie stuck a pronoun sticker on their water bottle because their coworkers kept misgendering them and their coworkers...kept on misgendering them (they used to be a chemist).

But what is their name? One thing gender-neutral pronouns doesn't tell you is how to address someone formally.

I guess it depends on the job, but I dont call anyone I work with Mr. or Mrs.

I call everyone by their first name, so this person would be no different.

Ah yes, because "he" and "she" tell you what someone's name is

Men use "Mr."

Women use "Ms."

Non-binary people... do most of them use "Mz", "Zim," "Zer", or want to avoid the honorific altogether.

bigblu89 posted...

I never call anyone but friends at work by their first name, and I like to be treated the same way. I consider being overly informal a little disrespectful.

I've also noticed that, left to my own devices, I use the first name more often with female subordinates than with male subordinates, and in different situations. So to avoid any appearance of favoritism I use Mr/Ms./Title last name almost always. Title last name in writing, of course.

I think the weirdness comes from that they/they is kinda ingrained into our brain that its plural. So using those words to address 1 person, is where the weirdness comes from.

They should have came up with new words to address gender neutral.
