...time travelers keep coming back in time to try and kill him. Martha always murders them to keep her son safe, but she figures out why they're coming back to kill him and changes the future. Like one guy came back to kill "the tyrant Kal-El", so she changes her mind about homeschooling him so he'lll connect with other people from a young age. Another comes back to recruit a young Clark into a special school, indicating he reveals his identity, so she enrolls him in a theater class for kids to help him learn how to lie. Because the future changes, no one comes back, and she forgets that it happened.
