It was on the psone classics store on ps3 but that's it I think.

None at all, I don't think there are even any shoutouts to Xenogears like Xenosaga had.

They are both made by the same creator but the Xenoblade series is garbage compared to Xenogears. It is really jarring to go from the greatest plot in video game history in Xenogears to a generic plot like Xenoblade

Officially? No because of legal reasons.

Spiritually and in ways that you can pretty clearly see the links? Yep.

The Conduit in Xenoblade is essentially the Zohar from Xenogears/saga.

I rremember picking up the PS1 greatest hits rerelease when it came out. My friend who introduced me to the game lost his second disk so he was thrilled at the idea of finally getting to complete the game. Even though he never did and I cannot say the same.

Xenosaga was more of a spiritual successor to Xenogears, but not directly related

Mostly legal reasons, yeah but there are enough connections for Xenogears to be considered a sequel that takes place 10,000 years after Xenosaga 3.

The mastermind behind the series worked for square when gears was made. Then he left and started working under uhh monolith soft I believe? And that was a company under namco. There he made the saga trilogy, but it was originally meant to be at longer. As in, the first half of 2 was supposed to be part of 1 in his original drafts. And he wanted it to be 6 games long. But alas, he had to do cuts.

Following this, he ended up getting to work with Nintendo who basically said he could take his time to fine tune what he wanted to make. And bam, suddenly blade came out. And given the years between each entry he's not being pushed for a release or to make cuts because of it being too big a dream for him to fully realize.

Basically though, the entire concept is his life's work.

I'm not going to go into the connections because the vast majority is incredibly spoiler-heavy. All I'll say is that Xenogears was made by a team at Square who later branched off and made their own company (likely because Square siphoned off money meant for Xenogears to put towards FF8 which ends up showing hardcore when you get to disc 2) called Monolith Soft who made Xenosaga 1-3. Then they got bought by Nintendo and MS stopped trying to make some grand multi-series storyline happen and kept it much more self-contained with only a couple fan favorites making an appearance in Xenoblade 2.

Fwiw that budget thing isn't even really true, the issue was that he wanted the entire story in and the disc wouldn't have enough space and they couldn't get a 3rd disc. So he went with a visual novel style narrative for much of the 2nd disc with fights in between.

Xenosaga was supposed to be 6 games that tell the whole story, 1000 years before Xenogears into the years after. but they only managed to get the pseudo-prequel done.

If "they couldn't get a 3rd disc" when FFVIII got 4, then yeah, FFVIII did siphon off its budget.
