My wife and I are thinking about getting a solar system installed on our house.
I'd love to hear anyone's experience they or someone close to them has had with a solar system on their house. The company doing the system is guaranteeing that it will create a certain amount of KW or they will add more panels on their dime. Seems like a win win

But I know nothing is perfect. For context, I live in Central Florida, the company is sun shop, and installation and all parts are included in the quote

You leasing panels and buying their power or are you buying panels?

Either option has its perks

I'm a big fan of solar if the price is right.

If you are looking for energy independence regardless of the price it's a great step to take.

If you are looking for cost savings from decreased electricity bills you better plan to make sure the payoff is there during the time you live in the house.

If you get it, you'll be able to fire off Solar Beams without taking a turn to charge it up.

I've thought about it myself. My house is in a great location for solar energy. I feel like if I made the entire roof solar panels it would cut my electric bill so damn much.

Only problem is the upfront cost of getting the panels installed.

ID be purchasing the panels and financing the cost at an interest rate of 1.5 percent. Twenty five year maintenance is included which is also the duration of the loan. We will be here for at least another 25 years.

I would like energy independence and the positive impact to the environment on my part even small is very important. We'll be here for at least another 25 to 30 years

I had leased ones on my last house. It saved money on the bill but then I had a lease bill anyways.

new house came with them paid off. My power bill was 9 dollars this month

Solar Panels came with the house. I had no choice but to take the panels or lose the house. The panels themselves are not worth it. I haven't done the exact math, but the lease payments seem to be around the same amount as I'm saving on the electricity bill. So it's a bunch of hassle that I'm probably going to lose money on.

Also, apparently I'm forbidden to own a battery to store any of the electricity I generate. The power companies have outlawed it and SunRun laughed when I asked them about it. So I get to use exactly ZERO amount of the electricity I generate. It all goes to the power company. When the power goes out, I'm in the dark just like everyone else.

That's less an issue with panels and more and indictment on local power company monopolies, though.

I'm in the process of getting solar on my house. Just waiting on supply chain issues to be resolved.

I don't know what state you're in, but Florida has a one to one net metering agreement. So any extra power generated during the day gets monitored and sent back to me when the panels aren't generating, in the morning or at night.

depends on your situation. personally my house's roof is facing the wrong direction so even in the summer panels would only get partial exposure.

Because that's not a fault of solar power itself, it's you getting fucked by your specific power company.

It sucks but because of the owners, not the panels.
