I've been averaging 24 ounces per day in conjunction with about 16 ounces of coffee in the morning. This is going to suck, but I want to start feeling better about my health.

I am trying as well. My wife bought me a Peloton and I have started meal prepping and drinking a lot more water. I have given up beer as well. I hope to lose 27 lbs

What worked for me was using flavored sparkling water as a way to wean myself off of it. Just something to give me that carbonation fix until I got used to drinking flat water again.

Thanks for the support. Replacement will be more water, either flavored or plain, and maybe a coffee boost in the afternoon when things get rough, mainly at work. I was switching to diet / zero sugar soda, but I can't use it as an excuse to keep drinking the stuff.

Good luck to you. You'll get some improvement if you stick with it. Hope you're on vacation for those caffeine headaches. Right now I'm trying to switch to 0 calorie soda.

yeah i would not do any diet or zero sugar soda, don't listen to people who say it's not bad for you. there is so much evidence that sugar substitutes have numerous bad effects on your health, from neurological stuff, to your gut microbiota, to increasing hunger cravings which is just counterproductive.

flavored water is a great idea though. some people swear by the flavored sparkling waters like LaCroix or whatever, but personally i don't like those. i like slicing up a half a cucumber into a pitcher of water and letting it chill in the fridge for a day. infused water is tasty stuff, and there are many different things you can infuse it with, veggies, fruits, herbs. i would also maybe try some green tea instead of more coffee, with some honey and lemon.

Quitting soda is one of the easiest habits to break, its not really addictive per se. Its by far the best way to shed a few pounds right away, and long term will help keep them off, not to mention other health benefits.

I used to miss the taste of Dr. Pepper, but that was pretty fleeting.

Definitely not on vacation, so the work week will suck, but that's the price to pay when breaking habits.

Not a fan of cucumber, but a lemon slice would suffice. Mio is good, too. I need to avoid the flavor packets with artificial sweeteners, like aspartame.

No idea what "check the fridge" insinuates, but I drank the last of the soda last night.

Try fizzy water.

The other thing is if you want to drink a soda, drink a glass of water first. If you still want a soda after, go for it. Most of the time you won't though.

Diet soda is just as bad for you as regular soda is. Diet soda contains Aspartame in it and it gets digested like sugar does.

Yet I feel great, I lost a lot of weight, and my blood pressure is normal when it used to be extremely high to the point where I was at a huge risk of getting a heart attack or a stroke. My doctor even said to me, "Whatever you're doing, keep doing it."

I just looked it up and it seems like I was wrong but remember what I said was what I remember reading some time ago. I guess Aspartame isn't as bad for you as I was thinking it was. So you loosing weight by switching to diet is a thing and good for you.

Everyone should for their future diet when they're middle aged. Slowing metabolism, not as active as you were in your 20's. Would you rather have a Coke and grilled chicken salad or water and a bacon cheeseburger and fries?

If you want to quit but still get that carbonated feeling, the liter bottles of water that Walmart sells slap (ClearAmerica iirc). Taste good and have that carbonated feeling that helps me think Im drinking soda.

Also if you have a Safeway, the Safeway Select liter waters are the same way. Good, actual flavor (unlike LaCroix or aha) and a carbonated feeling. The worst thing they have is aspartame, not even high sugar/sodium.

I think I'm fine dropping the carbonated texture/flavor. Sparkling water, while a decent substitute, isn't something I enjoy.

Day two is going like yesterday. Bit of a mental fog and a dull headache, but fine. Drinking black coffee in the morning helps subdue some pain, since it is a source of caffeine. Just waiting for the body shakes to start hitting full throttle.

I stopped drinking soda on my weight loss of 100 pounds and it doesn't seem gross. I just treat it like a dessert I have realistically and not some sort of liquid I must drink to stay hydrated like I used to.

I almost never drink soda, but if I do, I drink probably a cup and realize it doesn't satisfy me like it used to. And then I immediately think about how it literally gives me NO benefits whatsoever to my health, the only benefit it offers is some caffeine and it tastes good. Candy would offer more than soda. So I don't drink it much if at all. If I want caffeine I can get coffee which has hardly any calories (depends on how you drink it), and if I want something good tasting and sugary, there's candy and a myriad of other options. Soda should be last. If you want something fizzy and flavorful, I'd highly recommend Sparkling Ice. I really like the cherry limeade flavor but again I treat those as rewards for finishing exercise and not something I drink casually or a replacement for water.

Just as a note, I was a guy who drank pepsi as if it were literal water. I was pretty damn bad. Went out running and thirsty? Pepsi will hit the spot. Fucking insane I did that.

I've stopped drinking regular and transitioned to zero sugar, maybe a can a day. Now regular tastes nasty to me when I drink it.

Still trying to cut it out completely but it's not super easy. Caffeine free diet is an option but there aren't many to choose from.

You got this man!

The longer you go without drinking soda, the less you will crave it. Eventually, you won't want to drink it at all.

And it happens a lot sooner than you think.
