This crossed my mind the other day, and it's actually not complicated. The reason is simply a complete and absolute lack of work ethic. They want to "go fast" rather than do something the right way. And, in a philosophical sense, to elevate alternative styles of work in the marketplace. The goal is the illusion of speed and the desire (subconscious) to promote radical Leftist, borderline Communist ideals of how easy work is supposed to be. Everyone always says that speedruns look easy. Well, that is part of the aesthetic. Think about the phrase "fully automated luxury Communism" within the context of speedrunning, and I strongly suspect that things will start to become clear to you. Consider how "woke" that community has been, almost since the very beginning. Your eyes will start to open. A video game speedrunner may well spend hours a day mastering their craft, but this is ultimately a meaningless exercise, for they will only accomplish exactly that which has already been done. It is, thus, a complete waste of effort on their behalf. Put more simply, they are spending their work effort on something that someone else has done countless times before (and done in a way deemed "correct" by the creator of the artwork). And why do they do this? The answer is quite obvious if you think about it. What happens to the individual in all of this? In speedrunning, any individual accomplishment is simply waiting for another person to come along and steal the techniques in order to get a faster time. Where is something like intellectual property or a patent in this necessarily communitarian process? I think it's because the "US Right Wing" is generally anti-video games. So people who are super into video games in the US are more likely to be left wing or apolitical.
