Disallowing a cat to go outside without a harness or leash is NOT abusive. They are happy indoors and with just a window or two they can watch cat TV, they are good. With that said I absolutely advocate for taking your kitties outside, be it with a harness, leash, or pet stroller!

Inside cats are friendlier, causes them less stress, and they are less likely to get killed/injured. It's win win.

Cats are also less annoying for your neighbor. If a cat is noisy or annoying no one else will know about it. If you have a noisy barky dog everyone nearby will know about it.

Literally my neighbor a few houses down has a fucking pit mix or some shit and it barks every time I come home, and gets out frequently, that dog is gonna get shot or ran over. Crazy

Dogs are very stupid and very dependent on people. They will (for the most part) love you and love up on you regardless of what you say or do. Loyal to a fault so they are far more popular for that reason.

I have a bunch of strays living in my yard, so I actually do have cat TV.

I've gotten 4 or 5 of them fixed, still trying to get traps from the shelter for the skittish ones.

We have 6 dogs, 4 cats and 2 birds.
we found the cats in a parking lot when they were about 2 weeks old (mother nowhere in sight) and took them home and hand-raised them. One of the dogs designated herself to be the mother of the kittens as well (would lick and groom them)

I've lived with cats all my life and never had a dog until my sweet baby who passed away at 8 years old a month ago.

You could have three house cats and they would be less maintenance than one dog. Cats definitely do love you but I don't think it's quite as much as a dog when they are young or middle-aged. Once they become senior cats they usually are as clingy and loving as a dog.
