Shouldn't they be more libertarian than the Jedi

Freedom for me, not for thee.

If you wanted to be free you should have been stronger.

Sith don't value freedom as a concept, they value being able to do whatever they, personally, want. Being the head of an autocratic government is really the ultimate way to accomplish that.

Is it though? It's literally a full time job. Vader spends all his time dealing with rebel scum, while Palpatine needs to rubberstamp whatever the bureaucrats are up to and respond to intelligence reports about rogue Jedi, galactic trade disputes, etc etc. You think Palpatine can just go to the space bar without the space paparazzi making a galaxy wide fuss?

I doubt Palps does any work he doesn't want to do. He tries to track down Jedi and chooses what weapons to throw money at, and leaves the rest to the Moffs. Dude dissolved the Senate and gave local systems more power probably so less stuff ended up on his desk. If he wanted to go to the space bar it could be an issue but he gets his jollies sitting in dark rooms and cackling so it probably doesn't come up.

Vader, yeah. Dude got screwed. But that's the other thing about the Sith. He's only screwed for as long as he isn't strong or smart enough to seize power for himself.

In Legends there was a sith who did just run a corporation, became fabulously wealthy, and died successful.

His Holocron was given to some wannabe sith as a snub. All it did was dispense financial advice.

palpatine literally promoted tarkin to be his apprentice's equal, you think he wasn't delegating other shit too?

and yes, being a sith apprentice does not mean getting freedom. the master gets the freedom, the apprentice gets to covet it.

Regimes that enslave those weaker than them and run on totalitarian control seems like exactly the kind of government Sith love.
