i hate living with other people. i love having control over noise volume, i like knowing everything is where i left it, i hate sharing kitchen tools etc, sometimes i just don't want to deal with ppl and don't get me started on if they bring guests over. every one i ever lived with and i have eventually grown to hate each other. since moving out on my own i would never go back. it's honestly so nice having my big luxury condo all to my self

Trust me, TC, I don't think you have to worry. Nobody wants to live with someone who leaves bowls of piss around.

Not that much more? Even with 1 roommate, you're literally cutting how much you pay on rent in half, then to 1/3 with 2 roommates, and so on. Three or four people living together can live in a much bigger and nicer place than they could afford alone.

you're paying more for a larger place tho, ie you need 3 bedrooms for 3 ppl

just get a smaller place for 1 person

Living with my buds in college in a tiny crappy house paying$200/month was a blast.

Wouldn't wanna do it again tho.

my parents grew up poor, and despite having good money they made sure i knew what it was like to grow up poor. they refused to buy me clothes and made me wear my sister's hand me downs until high school. they refused to buy me winter clothes (tend to be more expensive) and i was just constantly sick. the worst thing they ever did, which irreparably damaged our relationship, was tell me they were going to pay for my college and then deciding to use that money on their dream house during my senior year. i paid for all my college on my own, racking up over 100k in student debts

ofc this backfired, once i got my engineering job i just started buying myself top of the line everything. i deserve it.

It just depends on what you're aiming for. In LA, you can rent a 3 bed, 2 bath house for around $3,000. That's $1,000 per person and you guys get a decently sized rooms with spacious common areas and your own backyard. And usually on a street with plenty of street parking, because it's not a bunch of apartments.

Comparatively, a lot of 1 bedroom apartments in LA are around $1,200 and are small with hardly any street parking.

Some people live paycheck to paycheck. Saving where you can makes a difference. Of course, there are also extreme money savings, like 2-3 people splitting a studio apartment (Yes, people do this).

You save money. Not just in terms of rent, but also utilities and other expenses. You can also divide tasks such as cooking and cleaning amongst your roommates. You also have more people to, say, look after animals.
This, of course, relies on finding and keeping reliable roommates, but I did once have excellent roommates I was the bad roommate. :( In my defense, I was really struggling on a personal level at the time, but I don't blame my roomies from back then if they don't want anything to do with me and my friend has two excellent roommates. They even cooperated to construct, plant, and tend a sizeable vegetable garden full of kale, tomatoes, various herbs, peppers, zucchini, etc.
