If he was still a holocaust survivor in 2022, he'd be about 90 years old. So what if we wanted him in his 40s or 50s, what would be an atrocity that would fit his backstory and character?

The Srebrenica massacre? Too soon? Magneto's backstory wasn't established until about 40 years after the holocaust. Think there would be an uproar for changing Magneto from Jewish to Muslim? What other genocides would fit with Magneto's fear of mutants being rounded up, put into camps and slaughtered?

The holocaust. You can't just replace it with any other genocide because the German obsession with genetic superiority paired with the fact that they were doing it to their own citizens is a unique combination that fundamentally defines Magneto as a character.

They'd stick with the Holocaust, and come up with an excuse for him to be young, like being frozen, somehow using his powers to stay young, or being send forward in time.

They've already de-aged both Xavier and Magneto in a recent run.

I mean we do already have two 105 year olds who look 30 something I suppose. So you could say some scientists froze him or something.

Why are we assuming he's going to be 90? The multiverse has opened up, they can just pick any version of him they want.

Besides, I'm not strictly talking MCU anyway. Just a modern day X-Men.

I don't think they're going to remake X-Men. They're going to use the Fox characters, and plug them in the MCU. They're going to make new stories and build upon the existing characters. That's what I would do anyways. Remaking Magneto's story is unnecessary. His original story is the best. No need to change it. And bring him when he was 50 years old to 2022 by multiverse shenanigans.
