I was actually looking for a story I saw on my local news about an Asian woman who recorded an incident where she was the victim of a hate crime, only the NYPD hate crime investigation unit told her she shouldnt have recorded him which triggered him and did nothing about her complaints, so she went to the local media to have her story heard. Unfortunately I couldnt find the story online but what I did find was article after article of Asian women getting attacked in NYC within the past year, and that led me to find out how much anti Asian hate crimes surged in my city. Is it just NYC or are other major cities experiencing similar spikes?

That's awful. What groups or types of individuals are commiting these hate crimes and why?

Didn't some people on CE claim that the numbers hadn't gone up at all, but it was just more "outrage clips" being posted?

My guess is the disenfranchised, from the article:

Many of the hate crimes, particularly in New York City, have occurred in low-income areas and enclaves that have already suffered from the effects of the pandemic, Jeung said. Aside from the lack of economic opportunity, housing insecurity and scarce mental health resources, one potential impetus for crimes targeting Asian Americans could be the perception that they are easier, softer targets and are less likely to report.

what Im curious about is whether the spike in hate crimes is proportional across other metropolitan cities or if NYC is the epicenter of this new trend, as a New Yorker its something I want to know more about, if NYC is indeed isolated in having such a spike then why? While Trump obviously didnt help matters and even made the situation worse, if cities like NYC had existing meaningful infrastructure that assists those in poverty or with mental health issues, then a pandemic wouldnt be enough to break the system to a point where youre seeing statistical absurdities in crime rates.

That is fucked up. Would have thought now that US is opening up and COVID is over in many areas the blaming Asians for COVID and attacking them would stop.
