They survive off of selling information(which many governments will begin to crack down on) and their acquistion of instagram. The future of social media has already passed them by, only old people who will eventually just die still use facebook. Metaverse is reliant on technology that doesn't even exist in a satisfactory form yet, and some necessary tech actually doesn't exist. Also, their model of linking your real identity to everything goes completely against having a random avatar in an online world.
