Who are you playing as first?

I know at least a few of you on here enjoy Total War games. Warhammer 3 won't reach its peak until we get the combined map in a few months, but I'm still excited. Every playable race looks really fun and fleshed out. I'll be starting with Zhao Ming of Cathay first though. Cathay's magic is intriguing, and they've got excellent unit variety.

Maybe ogres. But I don't know. I picked up the first 2 on sales but I don't actually have much play experience. I'm kinda wanting to wait til the global map is out. Ever since I heard about the final global map for 3, that's what I've been interested in

they went and used the sims model of DLC for that series, i've no real urge to give them money because of it.

I don't know if that's an accurate comparison really. The series absolutely does have far too much DLC. The thing is that almost all of it is high quality. For the majority of people I would just recommend getting the games when they're on sale and buying only the DLCs that interest you.

There's no such thing as too much DLC, only DLC that isn't worth the money. Thankfully, almost all of TWW2's was.

Not sure why you'd even whine about such a thing in a game that will last you over 1000 hours anyway. I understand complaining about it in something like, idk, Batman, where your $10 will get you like 2 hours of entertainment. A campaign addon in these games gets you usually at least two new campaigns, each of which takes like 50 hours on the extreme low end to complete, plus unit roster additions.

But anyway, I'm waiting for the game to be a bit more polished since it has a few bugs right now. I'll probably end up waiting for a good sale, actually. But I'd probably play Khorne first since I loved Taurox's campaign which was similar from what I hear

Can't wait to see what new races are added later down the line

I want to play Kislev, but they look a bit too goofy and fantasy-like for me. Which is a pretty impressive feat for a Warhammer Fantasy game.

I'll probably just wait until Chaos Dwarfs are released.

I have all the dlc and don't regret buying any of it

If I was locked out of playing any video games forever except the TWW series, I would still have enough gaming for like the next decade before I have to repeat anything

There's just so much replayability and every race plays completely differently, like playing starcraft or some other similar rts where there are significant differences

Plus mods will add even more replayability. They're also a good means of addressing bugs that CA will simply never get around to or altering/reversing questionable design decisions.

I'll play Cathay and if I actually stick with the game, Ogres next probably.
I like specialized units, infantry, and the Harmony mechanic seems like it could be fun to work with. It's also just a really pretty aesthetic with the China-stuff.

Apparently it's buggy as shit right now and troop movement is kind of a broken mess. Here's a one hour deep dive:

Yeah bugs are unfortunately inevitable. I've seen criticism of the main campaign as well. That's why I do think it makes sense for most people to wait for the combined map or wait for a sale or for bugs to be fixed. I just don't feel like waiting.

If Chaos Dwarfs were in the game at launch, I think they would have been my immediate choice to play as. I wonder what will come after them though. I like the idea of Dogs of War because mercenaries as a mechanic is something I'd like in this series. They've been trending in that direction with the Ogre Mercs in Warhammer 2 and now the Outpost system in this game.

I played a little bit today. Lots of people having performance issues, but surprisingly I'm not encountering anything too bad. I managed to tweak the settings so that the framerate in battle is pretty smooth. The campaign map is definitely more demanding, but it's been a pretty consistent 40 FPS, and that seems manageable so far.
