Yes. Hes slapped me across the face a couple of times in my early 20s. Spanked me occasionally as a child but it was rare.

No. He was plenty abusive but never physically, though he made threats at times. That fact is probably the only reason why I held back and didn't get physical with him during the incident that caused both my brother and me to stop seeing/speaking to him. I didn't need to get physical. My reaction broke him enough as it was... and I did hold back quite a bit. Still, losing my composure as much as I did was very alarming and not something I ever expected to happen.

The silver lining with all of it though is that my brother and I were never close growing up and he did some fucked up shit that made me resent him badly enough so that I was ready to cut him out of my life (before either one of us even considered cutting our father out), and I was a real prick to him too, throughout that. It was in retaliation but in hindsight that does not make it feel justified. We are both adopted and unrelated biologically (to each other and to our father), but certain mental illnesses can be inheritted through exposure/trauma, not just genetically (nurture vs. nature). As a result, my brother and I are closer these days than we ever have been before and I feel like we ubderstand each other better than anyone else understands either of us. Our father and his bullshit really is the common denominator there imo.

I think I recall being spanked one time when I was like four or five, but I think he really disliked it because I don't recall any other instances.

I was born in a small town in a developing country, everybody hit their kid, my dad wasnt any different, if anything he beat me less than the average parent back where Im from. Growing up in states made me resentful of my parents given how the West views hitting children and it influenced my perception of why I thought it was fucked up. I have learned to get over it as I got older though, I was lucky to have a father like him in the sense that hes always been here for me, even if what he did can be considered abuse , a lot of people dont have fathers as caring as mine.

it would be fucked up if he used the stuff posted in this topic to get in good digs and insults sometime in the future based on the personal information divulged, though Ive only seen a handful of users do that on this site. Funnily enough someone used my medical condition which I recently shared to take a dig at me, it was the same day I posted about it too lol hes one the few users that I already thought was fucked up enough to do that though so it wasnt that surprising
