Certainly there is some unfair bullshit in there but I found most of the game manageable with a little bit of thinking

BUT I found the story of DS2 infinitely more compelling because it revolved around humans and I found it much more of a human story/drama than DS1

Also, while some people hate the inconsistency of the geography of DS2, I was able to look past it because I already got over all my issues with the existence of the Great Hollow/Ash Lake in DS1

I found the actual areas of DS2 to be quite stunning in visage and internally consistent (except the Aldia mansion/Dragon Aerie and Earthen Peak/Iron Keep, which were admittedly pretty bad). The DS2 DLC areas were just visually stunning in every way.

Anyway, both games are great, but man DS2 rocked it

DS2 is indeed better than DS1

I just beat DS2 actually as well. It was the last From game I needed to beat since I put it off for years. I thought it was easily the worst and it wasn't even close, but I am glad you found enjoyment out of it. To each their own.

overall, I prefer what DaSII had to offer over DaS, but due to the first game feeling a lot more polished/having more thoughtful design put into it, I give it the edge.

Eh, idk.

People complain about unfair enemy placement but after your first initial run-in got you killed, I found it pretty easy to figure out how to get past enemies. Some parts of the DLC are straight up trash, though.

Other than that, I can't think of anything that was too bad about DS2. Some of the hitboxes WERE wonky, but it was only a handful. People made it sound like every enemy was gonna hit me from 50 miles away, etc. and it wasn't the case

You have to suffer through DS6 and 7 before that point, though. The series really hits a rut before it regains its stride.

Dark Souls 1 is one of my absolutely favorite games even though the back half is kinda meh

It has better game play and graphics.

It's just the story and environments that are inferior.

It's a better game because those things are things I enjoy and the gameplay itself, while less polished, wasn't to the degree where I hated it, so the story and visuals are a boon and the gameplay isn't a significant detriment.

Where did DS1 go wrong?

I think 2 is the worst of the trilogy and I've never watched any streamers.

I found the world layout jarring. I thought many of the bosses were somewhat underwhelming. I've got like 300 hours in it and all the achievements. I really like it. Yet it is my least favorite of the three.

I found the story somewhat ehhh as well.

I've never played the Scholar version. I'm basing my experiences on the original version.

That doesn't even make sense. You have to experience your character running with poop in his pants first hand to fully appreciate how poorly the game controls.

Its a hot take cause its wrong.

I don't think it necessarily went wrong anywhere. I had an excellent time with it.

I would just say that I never found myself invested in my character's story, just everyone else's. I was invested in other people's stories, and reading the descriptions of the excellent lore was great. But even though I am "The Chosen Undead" it never felt like my story. The fact that if I don't do it,

With DS2 I get to meet Vendrick, I get to connect with Alsanna, I get to explore the fallen Kingdoms, and Aldia feels like he's telling me enough to give me a choice, unlike the serpents leading me.

I just like DS2's approach to a more personal story, that's all.
