It's a 2D game about closing doors at the right time so you don't get jumpscared.

And has this absurd backstory about mass murdering children and magic goop and the souls of people being put into costumes or AI cyber beings and humans who don't realize they are robots.

Not as bad as Kingdom Hearts but jeez.

That's a lot of effort.

A lot of horror games are built on lore that are in the background that the vast majority of people will never see. A lot of indies are too now that I think of it. Combine those and this is what you get.

Its a 3D game with some weirdly deep lore.

Just seems lazy to me when most of the lore is hidden away and you have to go looking for it

Thing is, every new bit of lore makes the story cheesier and cheesier. I liked it better when they were just creepy animatronics.

That;s why the new game has mixed reviews. New players literally have no explanation for what's going on in the plot unless they look it up

Though, I don't think Five Nights at Freddy's counts as one in the traditional sense. It's mostly just a large franchise that keeps adding more stuff to the lore between games.

I quite liked the MattPat's Game Theory video on the first game where he suggested the game was based on a real life murder at a Chuck E Cheese. But then it got really dumb.

I'm generally not a fan of video games that make you dig deep into a bunch of bullshit to figure out the lore.

It's interesting how it's a game that basically became a phenomenon through internet theories and the like. Almost like the game itself was a Creepypasta.

I guess it's an evolution of that Majora's Mask Creepypasta from back in the day.

the backstory and lore is truly the most interesting part of this series. cause god knows how boring and repetitive it is gameplay wise. lol

either way, i always liked the idea of a Chuck E Cheese like place where the animatronics are possessed by the souls of murdered children...
