A few episodes in and it feels like a blatant LOTR ripoff and half the cast are utterly unlikable.

I liked the show from the first episode, so it may not be for you.

As for the books, the first book does intentionally have a lot of similarities to LotR, but the rest of the series is very different from LotR.

The episode where they cross the river after getting chased by the bad guys made me almost fall of my chair it was so blatant how bad the copyright was. The last thing i seen was some magical shadow's trying to kill them, it looked so dumb and lame. oh know I'm gonna get killed because i stepped out of the sun for a few seconds. Who writes this shit.
