Well?

I mean I can rip through disposable sci-fi/fantasy novels like a machine so that easy enough, but I saw that three of those books are by Karen Traviss so I'm gonna pass.

What did she do? Or is just about her writing style being very......aggressive(inconsistent?)...with the concepts and morality she's trying to push?

She is just genuinely awful. Especially when she is doing media-tie-in novels, where she becomes obsessed with few ideas and just goes ham on them, regardless if it makes sense within the greater context of the universe she is writing in.

Like I know nothing about her Halo novels but I'm going to make a few guesses. First, they are among the most widely disliked novels of the series. Second, they play very loose with the lore. Third, the leadership is treated like one-note idiots and/or monsters. And finally there is like no nuance whatsoever. Everything is black and white.

I heard the Halo novels are legit awful. The only thing worse is probably the Mass Effect novels since they literally contradict the source material a lot.

Traviss' Kilo-5 trilogy estabilished a lot of the base post-H3 canon and the second book was mostly setup for Halo 4. It was also one of the worst Halo books, yes. The 1st book of the trilogy wasn't too bad, though it was hated a lot for its criticism of Halsey. The 3rd was weird, but not bad.

The moral treatment of its leaders is weird, with Halsey painted as a complete monster but Parangosky held as an absolute saint. But the books contain a lot of morally gray black ops. The main characters start by selling weapons to anti-Arbiter rebels to destabilize Sanghelios. ONI also develops grains that give Elites diarrhea, which leads to Jul M'damas vendetta against humanity.

i've read most of them, not the kilo-5 books though. everything i've heard about those suggests they're really bad attempts at retcon.

I read Fall of Reach, The Flood, and Ghosts of Onyx. I enjoyed them. Not the greatest pieces of literature ever obviously, but worth the read. The newer books have never really appealed to me though. And I never got around to reading First Strike despite having a copy of it.

These 4 are the ones I read. I thought Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First Strike were fine, Ghosts of Onyx started losing me enough to not read any more.

I read all the old ones like 15 years ago, so how many more could there be now? I enjoyed them too, so this wouldn't be too bad.

The Halo lore is pretty deep and cool, but the books themselves are very hit and miss like the old Star Wars EU was. The Forerunner Saga is neat if not a bit hard of a read sometimes.

I feel like I remember liking Karen's Republic Commando books when I read them 15 years ago. I didn't realize she was such a controversial figure.
