Location is MGM Grand

Cost is not a factor, both rooms are totally comped.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stay Well Executive King Suite (675 sqft)

I'll start with the "stay well" stuff. Basically, it's a bunch of gimmicky gadgets to help improve your overall stay while in the room. The highlight for sure is the memory foam mattress, I definitely slept like a rock last time I had a Stay Well room. I haven't stayed in a normal MGM Grand room without the memory foam, but I assume the mattresses are fine enough given the normal price of the other room, so I'm not worried about inability to sleep.

Others include aromatherapy (we couldn't figure out or it was doing nothing), a water infuser in the shower head (which smelled great and felt great too), filtered sink water (doesn't bother me one way or the other), a noise machine (which always helps me), and some other random shit we didn't really use or figure out. So it's stuff that would theoretically help a little since I'll be spending more time in the room than on a normal vegas trip, but most of it didn't do anything for me. More gadgets are in the link below.

As for the room itself, it's an extra large room with a nice long couch, king bed, desk and chair (I'll be working during the day). The bathroom looks much smaller in a video I watched about the room. I don't need a TON of space, but the room has two showers for some reason (one that goes into a small bathtub, another which is a typical glass enclosed hotel shower). It's one of those tubs that is so small there's no reason to bother taking a bath.

Overall, it reminds me of like an "enhanced big room." It's no penthouse by any means, but it's nearly double the size of a basic room and comes with the "stay well" stuff (more of which is in the link below):

https://mgmgrand.mgmresorts.com/en/hotel/stay-well-executive-king-suite.html

----------------------------------------------------------

Tower Spa Suite (694 sqft)
I've actually stayed in this room before and it fucking owns. It comes with a MASSIVE jacuzzi hot tub in the bathroom, which in itself is also massive. The view stunk but it was a "stay well" room which are all on the same three floors 14-16, so here I'll likely have a much better view given the availability. Should be available upon request given it's a midweek trip and it's free.

Aside from the tub and the bathroom, the specs regarding the rest of the room are the same as above. Workspace, bed, etc. The jacuzzi at the end of each day from all the walking felt incredible, we used it every night.

https://mgmgrand.mgmresorts.com/en/hotel/tower-spa-suite.html

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So it's basically jacuzzi with a massive bathroom and likely chance at a good view, or shit view and small bathroom but with a good amount of things to help with sleep (memory foam mattress + white noise machine) and focus while working in the room.

FWIW when I tried booking incognito, the price of the tower spa suite was about $10 higher per night.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Thoughts?

If the Tower Spa Suite is also a "stay well", wouldn't it have the same things as a "stay well" Executive King?

Personally, I'd choose the Tower Spa. But that's just me. None of the "stay well" stuff you mentioned in the Executive room would be very important to me or appeal to me, and it sort of sounds some of those things aren't necessarily a make-or-break to you, either.

The hot tub room, no question. I stayed in a hotel with a hot tub in the room and that was great.

I too am trying to figure out a Vegas trip. A few Double Queens at the Venetian should work, right?

Get the hot tub.

This.

If any of them are comped, choose the one that you are least likely to get on your own. Usually the most expensive one. This way you can try out different experiences.

This specific Tower Spa Suite is not a "stay well," that wasn't available in the free comps. Might ask for a comp upgrade, it's possible some open up.

They definitely weren't make-or-break but neither is the jacuzzi necessarily. It's fun to have but not a necessity. Especially going solo this time. If my girlfriend was coming it would be jacuzzi for sure.

Definitely. I used to think memory foam was a ponzi scheme. Shit works.

I do but she's not coming this time. She was with me last time and, yeah, it was fantastic.

There's a lot to unpack in the realm of "I want to go to vegas, what should I do and where should I stay?"

As far as the size of your party, it sounds like there's a small group, maybe 5-6? Queen rooms would work for sure.

Venetian I've never actually stayed at, but it's got a great area around it in the canal shoppes. Location isn't exactly "center" strip, but you're close enough to the action if you want to walk closer to center strip. You're maybe a ten minute walk to the Linq Promenade area which is a decent spot with some variety, and another 10 minutes or so to get to Caesars and Bellagio which is pretty much center strip. There will be plenty going on in the Venetian area anyways. It's absolutely a good property to stay at.

That said, if you're more of a younger party vibe, I would recommend Aria or Cosmo. Might be a little pricier but they're super modern and dead center strip. Great atmosphere at both properties, but especially the Cosmo. But if you're more of the tamer crowd, Venetian is a great place to be able to retreat to (what I assume are) quieter rooms than those found center-strip.

I do have the "Try out different stuff" feeling on this one.

Both are comped.

The issue with "different" is, how different really is the room I haven't stayed at? It's basically just a supersized hotel room but with some sweet gadgets. So that factor isn't hugely in play here, although it is definitely how I operate most of my life. I have yet to go to a restaurant in vegas that I have been at before. New is always better.

I've basically stayed at both if I look at it in a different lens. I got a "stay well tower spa suite" on my last trip so that definitely felt like both rooms merged together, but in this case, that's not available as a comp.

Literally the reason I decided to look into a work vacation so soon after coming back.

Granted mask enforcement there was super low the past few times I've been anyways, so really nothing is changing in the grand scheme of things.

But man. You go to vegas to leave your worries behind. Having to remember your mask is a worry that you don't want to have to worry about. I can't wait to be able to be friendlier with people at the tables now. It's so hard to read people at blackjack, you don't wanna accidentally say something dumb to a guy who's on a bad streak.

And damn, that Tower Spa Suite costs less than I expected. I'll have to keep the MGM grand in mind if I ever go to Vegas.

Idk why it's taken me four trips to stay there once. It's in a decent spot, is a HUGE property, and has monorail access for all the northern properties. But within walking distance you're a stone's throw from Park MGM which has a free tram to Bellagio, so like, I don't know why I wouldn't stay there more often. It was great last time and I expect it'll be great again. Restaurants leave a bit to be desired though, although Morimoto was phenomenal. But again, easy access to everything for the most part so it doesn't really matter.

I think I might've overlooked it because I heard early on that its basic rooms (the west wing rooms) sucked and needed renovations big time, so I guess it spooked me away subconsciously. It's probably a top 3 now on my list of places to stay (all things considered, price included).

Yeah the price increase for my last stay was about another $30 for four total nights (not PER night) for the stay well so I gave it a shot. I think I'd accept the upgrade for that price again but no more. It's all pretty useless stuff at the end of the day except the mattress and white noise.
