I currently live in NC as a teacher, but I recently got offered a job in Fairfax, VA right outside of D.C.

That was their offer, which I thought was quite low for the cost of living at around $60K, so I declined.

But the hiring manager and the guy that would have been my boss called me after I declined and told me to keep in contact and they would probably hire for this same position again later in the year if I change my mind.

That area looks expensive af. Like, second most expensive in the country.

I make $45K as a teacher plus around $4K from my summer job in CA, and I live pretty comfortably in NC.

I mean it's doable but is it worth it to live somewhere s***ty

Do you mean that area or on that salary and have to live in a small studio?

Even if it were feasible to live in Fairfax comfortably at that pay rate (and it's really not), I would need a hell of a lot more money to deal with DC area traffic as it is.

I guess I'm honestly looking for justification I made the right decision.

I definitely don't make a lot as a teacher, but I'm definitely not struggling either; the job is just really rough mentally.
