With how sensitive people are these days and their need to cancel anyone that does/says anything they disagree with, Im going to guess several themes of this movie would not fly very well if it was released today.

It still occasionally does the rounds on cancel twitter from 14 year olds who never watched it.

So I don't think any studio exec would agree to let it be made with that character. Too nuanced a character to give the 280 character morality stamp of approval. .

People have been asking this question since release date. The whole point of the joke was it's offensive.

Probably the same amount it got back then.

The biggest difference is that people would know they can get attention from going against it now. Not that everyone has to give it a pass or they're wrong. Just saying, it's obvious the stuff that's commentary on itself has a lot of that. That's one the movies people as a whole aren't even close to wanting to censor. You can find whatever you want to make it seem that way. But it blew over and nothing happened to it cause most understood what the movie was doing and how it was making commentary on itself. Again, that doesn't mean you have to be ok with it. Just that more people are than "OMG CANCEL CULTURE" people make it seem

About as much backlash as account bet welchers get on here.

To be completely frank, Tropic Thunder was just as "unacceptable" back then as it is now. But people saw the value in the brazen ridiculousness of it in the same way that we see the value in JoJo Rabbit - parody / satire are a kind of humor that most people know how to appreciate without being personally offended, despite what Fox News suggests.

The only time it becomes an issue is when you're not quite sure if it actually is parody or satire; trumpism in particular has brought out a level of crazy in the right wing that most people presumed to be satirical but turned out to be legitimate.

There has to be a better way to use your limited time on earth than getting preemptively angry at imagined instances of cancel culture.
