Noticed how it was bringing out the worst impulses in me and making me... weird.

Figured it was time to ditch it and maybe try for some self improvement.

Deleted FB off my phone, same with Reddit. No Snap or Tiktok or anything either.

Only kept CE but even then it's like eh. I'm an addictive personality and I feel like the ability to just stream off any old thought that pops into my head is enabling some pretty weird and toxic shit in me.

Deleted my other apps and stuff, I'm back to seeing a shrink, and I'm making more of an effort to actually get out and do shit (as much as I can during a -30 winter during COVID lol). Maybe this is the next step? Iunno I've been coming here since I was like 13 (so like over half my life) so it feels weird to just try to jump away.

Read, play games, work on projects, go out, spend time with family/friends, lie around with my own pesky intrusive thoughts, etc

The month or so I was in purgatory for shitting on racists and people who like that shitty Razr mask was pretty good.

The only things that keep me coming back are the gacha and vtuber topics.

I stopped posting on Facebook (still go for shit posting groups). But my mental health definitely has improved by not getting into political arguments.

Yeah, fuck social media tbh. I quit most of it nearly a decade ago and never locked back.

CE is the only one I can check in and out of. Reddit I only go to for very niche things, but don't post on there.

It's interesting how Facebook has gone from ubiquitous to heading towards just being a place for old people and nutjobs.

Yeah it's a few things I picked up on (and my shrink too)

The two big ones I've noticed recently are with political/cultural shit and with all that Work Girl stuff I've been spewing out.

In both those cases the ability to legitimize every argumentative or insecure or wacky thought really spirals me out into some bad shit.

Having had a constant "companion" most of my life in CE and to a lesser extent Reddit/FB it's honestly like I've lost my inner voice if that makes sense. Like I don't know how to work through shit on my own in a healthy manner and any issue in my personal life or grievance with culture/society I have will never get resolved so I just keep looping back around with everything constantly.

And then when I don't get immediate gratification (attention or responses) I get all toxic and shit

I got right the hell off of Facebook in 2015 as it was becoming increasingly clear that there were a lot of people I was going to lose all respect for if I stuck around to hear their thoughts on politics.

I don't mind staying around CE and Reddit, though, since I don't personally know anyone on those sites.

I should do the same regarding CE.

And in response to what both of y'all said, it's not that I feel the community itself and the people here are toxic. On the contrary I've had some great times and great interactions with people on here. It's just that the nature of this place and other forms of social media really easily enable the worst qualities of myself.

Good for you, seriously. I stopped using Facebook a long time ago. Made me feel better pretty quick. I still use Twitter and Reddit, but only follow/subscribe to non-toxic people/things. This place brings out the negativeness of me and I don't like that. There's still the good/fun discussions and such though.

I wouldn't leave unless it's just a gigantic time sink. Nowadays this place is largely only worth lurking to see if there's some news story I might have missed.
