Yeah yeah, they probably don't need to ever Kickstart a thing again but they felt that the community building aspect of Kickstarter and the help of the community is a huge part of what made Shovel Knight great.

This looks fucking fun!

I was gonna back it like the moment I saw but they're not including backer names in the credits which is pretty lame to me specifically. I always regret not backing Shovel Knight when I first saw it, and wanted either my real name or MJOLNRVII in the backer credits.

I have no doubt this game is gonna be great though, all 4 Shovel Knight campaigns were fantastic(I know this is a different style of game, but still).

It's basically a preorder you do through the company rather than doing it at a retail store or Amazon or whatever.

I answered that. They feel it is great at creating a community around a game and for those who want to pre-order, might as well get involved with the creation process rather than just pre-ordering on Steam or PSN, etc. etc.

They kinda loved the fact that fans cared so much about Shovel Knight that they were held to completing their goals.

Yes and it was a big success and now they can fund the next game themselves.

Yeah, I can't get behind this. The whole point of Kickstarter is for up and coming studios that can't finance their own project, not established studios.

I disagree with the sentiment that Yacht Club shouldn't be on Kickstarter. I'm much more interested in giving to this Kickstarter than I am in pre-ordering games at all. It feels good to feel some ownership in the success of a game studio and a game being made.

And it's not like I don't get anything for it. For 20 bucks I'm going to get my copy of the game as soon as possible. Hell I might get in on a Beta or something too.

You do realize you own nothing in regards to video games right? You have a legal right to play it that can be removed? If we wanna be technical about it and everything...

Kickstarter was fine for their first game sure, but anyone funding it after the success they've seen is a sucker.

Yes, on a technical level I don't own any part of the game. On a technical level every game I purchase I don't own, I have a license to play the media that exists (unless I somehow have the technical ability to rip the data that is on the media and find a way to make it run, which I think is legal).

However, being part of the process of making the game better (supposing we get access to a Beta and feedback is taken) is important to me. It does make me feel part of the process.

At the very worst I give them 20 bucks and I get a copy of the game (since I know they can release a game). That is the very worst that can happen from putting my money on them. If Capcom wanted to do a Kickstarter for Mega Man Legends 3, I'd fucking put my money on it. Absolutely.

Or you play a small portion of the game, many people do, and that feedback ultimately makes the final product better. I don't think RE8 was impacted negatively with the open Beta.

When a company needs to cut their own promotional material they will argue about exclusives
