Seems to me the whole point of owning a pet is having a companion. So why would you want that companion roaming around the neighborhood most of the time? Where lord knows what can happen to them? I remember an old school friend of mine having three cats and all three were ran over in like a span of 6 months.

In case there aren't stray dogs or raccoons to get into trash cans

Outdoor cats are for people who want a pet, but want to push the responsibility of owning a pet onto all their neighbors so they don't have to do as much work.

There was an old lady who lived a block away from my house and she would leave open cans of tuna in front of her house all the time. There were always at least 4 stray cats in front of her house at all times. I guess some people want the company of animals without having to actually wash them or take care of them properly

Some might this. And also, some cats might also like that.

My last cat forced his way outside. We were worried about him and tried to bring him in at first but he wouldnt stop. So he ended up spending most of the day outside and the night inside. He would also visit people when they were outside.
