As someone who was a Republican for decades, I can tell you that whenever jobs look good / unemployment is low and a Democrat is president, they switch to talking about the labor force participation rate

So how many jobs were actually lost? The clip editing doesn't show that. I don't think it will change the overall point and hilarity, but it seems to be edited specifically to indicate that the 400whateverK job gains were overall.

That's just how it is. Your value as a employee has fuck all to do with the value of your labor, but instead how quickly and easily someone else can be trained to do your job.

More people applying for jobs, the more you can ignore them and pay less for the job.

Less people applying for a job, the more you have to pay them so they will want to apply for your job.
More jobs that exist, the less people apply for them. This gives the workers more power than the employers.

This is why a UBI would actually raise wages. If you don't have to work, you won't, especially not scrubbing toilets or shoveling shit. Those jobs would have to pay quite a bit to get anyone to bother.

It's just too bad UBI is essentially impossible.

Were you and I to decide that we should both get $1000 a month, that means we have to somehow find $2000 each month between us. All that changes when it's "everyone" is scale.

Last time I ran the numbers, we could liquidate all the wealth on the planet, an hand out about $36000 to everyone.
What happens then? Do we punish the guy who somehow ends up with $36001?

Wealth tax is not a punishment and it is only to people who have upwards of 50 or 500 million. You asking about someone with $36,000 is not honest.

How is it not a punishment?

1. They are still billionaires even after the get taxed. Elon would still be the richest man in the world.
2. They are that rich because people provide them labor and the government has infact given them subsidies from our tax money
3. since they avoid taxes now, it is simply getting from them what the actually already owe
4. Lifting up the poor is supposed to also allow the poor to buy more teslas and amazon so....

And that's where the "mixed economy" finds equilibrium. Private sewage is lucrative out in the boonies, but it would be (and has been) disastrous anywhere where population density can be calculated by standing in one place and looking at people.
