Because it feels like it. At least in my experience. I was interested in the hobby after going to a few games with my ex and I loved the lore and painting aspects of it. I decided to try it out with an Eldar army but when I started to find groups to join on my own a lot of the guys there treated me like I didnt belong or down right harassing me. Some guys were nice but many were really iffy. Telling me its a mans hobby, trying to hook up with me, treating me like I dont know what Im doing etc.

Is this common in the community as a whole. Its just a shame because I enjoy the hobby but am treated pretty badly just because Im a girl.

If not: It's one of the oldest persistent nerd community scenes, and it's only relatively recently that WH has had wider exposure, so they've maintained a lot of backwards attitudes.

Yes. I would try to find a flgs that doesn't tolerate that shit and see if they have Warhammer games. Don't go finding games at random.

It does tend to lean more heavily right wing than some other nerdy hobbies. They take the over the top somewhat satirical violence too seriously at times.

this. unfortunately, depending on where you are, options can be limited. minis especially suck in that case, since there's no real online option like with some of the other nerdy hobbies.

you can try to talk to the ownership, but if they didn't stop it as it started it'll be a tough change to make, even if they aren't part of the problem themselves.
