Hopefully the people were smart enough to invest in generators after the last event. 1 big outage and that thing pays for itself 5 times over.

I mean, they did absolutely nothing to fix the issues that happened right?

cold + ice + snow = strain on the electric grid. texas had to cut people off or else risk catastrophe.

Probably not. This cold snap is relatively limited. Only one full day will have temps below freezing (tomorrow) and while lows will hover or be below freezing for a few days, the highs will get above freezing.

I don't think people actually understand the scale of last year's freeze. It was below freezing for about 10 days and hovered in the 30s-40s for another 5-6 with about a foot of snow.

Basically we're looking at 4-5 days of a cycle that's already started versus about 14 days. This has less snow, it's less widespread, and it's less sustained. The media is hyping up a fairly typical cold snap for Texas as if it doesn't happen every year. A repeat of the 2021 disaster is almost 100% certain in the future, but it's more likely to be within 5-10 years rather than 1-5, since the 2021 disaster was comparable to the 2011 Texas blizzard.

For a good reference, I looked up temperatures;

The cold snap began in earnest for DFW on February 9th with a high of 39. This was the highest temperature until February 19th, 10 days later, when we hit 43. Lows did no exit freezing temperatures until the 21st.

More important, for four days, your average temperature IN THE DAYTIME was about 15~.

Oh I wasn't saying it was bad, or that an outage will happen right now. All I was saying that Texas likely isn't prepared for the next one, be it in a couple days or a couple years. Ether way I doubt they will work to prevent it from happening again.

Thank god I live in a rich suburb area... we have our own generators and power sources, so if the main lines screw up, those kick on and we're good. No one has outages here, and we had 0 issue last year.

I had cousins who lived in Texas when that shit happened. I used to live in Texas myself so I could only imagine how shit it was last year when the powergrid went down. Hopefully that shit don't ever happen again.
