I just watched a YouTube review of a shoot 'em up on the Sega CD.

This is the first time I've really been hit with the fact that, someday, my reflexes will slow and I might not be able to beat games like Lifeforce or Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. Battletoads remains the one game I never beat (legitimately). I made it half-way through before giving up. Then my cartridge gave up when I tried to return to it a few years ago.

I really need to play that one again and beat it while I still can. It makes me wonder what else I need to do before fast reflex gameplay is a thing of the past.

I thought about this just the other day. It felt like I was finally getting a joke. Viewtiful Joe 3 will come out as soon as I no longer have the young man reflexes and can barely play anything above normal difficulty.

I wouldn't worry that much about Battletoads though, outside of level 11 being pure timing, memorisation will get you through pretty much everything else eventually.

Memorization is a big part of it. That's why there are people who do crazy things on DDR without looking at the screen.

I think your reactions have to be kinda shit in the first place to get that bad later in life, or at least you have to have a decline that hits hard compared to others. We'll see how it goes with the old men still in the FGC.
