I like to think most hiring managers like to know you're serious but sometimes I wonder...

What type of interview is it? It very much depends on the industry, what you're interviewing for, and whom with.

Yes

Also be sure to tell the interviewer that you want their job in 5 years, they love that

I wore a suit to an interview with Goodyear Corporation, and the guy was very unhappy that I wore a suit. He was merely wearing a T-shirt that said Goodyear

If you are doing banking, then wear a suit, but not for car tires

SysAdmin position. During the phone screen the hiring manager described the company as laid back and chill so that's why I've got some self-doubt.

A suit has never failed me before, though, I should say that.

In my industry it is required. In your industry i have heard thr comouter world is a lite more lax about it. Dont go in like a bum but a nice pair of slacks and a button up shirt.

Wear the suit, and just take the tie off and loosen your collar - if it looks like you're over-dressed (with the suit on).

Yeah, I like that idea. I'll probably do something like that.

Well I didn't bother with the tie and I went with a polo instead of a button-down and I STILL felt overdressed. I wore the jacket since it was pretty cool out but really I should have just worn my regular work outfit (polo and slacks).

Yeesh. At least I think the interview went pretty well (although I showed up an hour early due to misreading my notification).

As a rule, you should try and dress similarly to how existing employees dress (so a suit for an office job with a formal dress code, a polo shirt for somewhere that has branded polos as the uniform, lingerie for a strip club etc.)

Ehh, the whole Covid thing has turned that all on its head. I'm interviewing for a job at a bank, and turned up on the video call in a suit. My interviewers were wearing sweaters lmao. I had an informal chat with one of the interviewers yesterday and wore my sweater to fit in.
