I have a leak in the basement. It's not very heavy, only fills up the bowl in about a week, but I'd like to fix it sooner rather than later. Call a plumber, he says it's a pipe that runs from the roof down and he can't fix it. Call a roofer and he climbs up there and looks, says it's a plumbing issue.
Fast forward a week and now I've discovered the carpet in the floor above the leak is wet.

I'm going back to renting, this shit is annoying.

To clarify, its a drip from the basement ceiling but the area above it on the floor above is wet as well?

Buy a pipe boot thing and do it yourself

Exactly. A drip from the basement ceiling and where the floor above it would roughly be, the carpet is wet

this is a sewer leak right? because the only plumbing line that goes to the roof is the sewer vent. or are you saying that rain is getting around the flashing around the vent pipe and tracking down multiple floors?

if its the second then its a roofing issue, they need to pull the shingles and replace the flashing around the vent pipe. its also kind of easy to do yourself if you've got the ability to go on your roof.
