Saw The Tragedy of MacBeth the other night which he was incredible in as expected so it got me thinking, has been capable of being flat out bad even once? idk if Virtuosity counts. I was going to see it but then it looked kinda too indie with black and white and comments calling it very slow, I just want to watch an adaptation of the Macbeth play If you're already familiar with the Macbeth tale and you can get past the very difficult Shakespearean dialogue, you will love it. What sets this version apart from the ones before it is that it plays out in a somewhat dark, barren, and atmospheric world filled with fog and nothingness. Those elements really set the tone in murder and madness. I have no idea if this movie was shot on an iPhone or something lol because it's advertised as an Apple movie, but aside from that it's similar in a style as The Lighthouse (4.3 ratio, black and white). On the big screen it's not noticeable but on tv I can see it being an odd experience for modern viewers used to 16:9 widescreen. The performances are very rich and on point which help cue you in the context of the Olde English lines so that helps viewers not used to the language. Coen Bros. staple Stephen Root is in it too which really shows the remarkable range he has in the acting world capable of playing anyone. Even Brian Thompson from Mortal Kombat Annihilation has a role and it's alot more respectable than as Shao Khan Anyway this is one of Denzel's best performances ever and likely gonna get him another Oscar win for it.
