It's Thursday, you know what that means: another night of robotic carnage on Discovery! Here's the fight card for tonight:

https://i.imgur.com/LxcvoGU.jpg

Off the heels of its dominant victory over Minotaur in the opening fight of the season, Sawblaze is in the main event taking on Madcatter. Also on the show, former champion Tombstone looks to avoid falling to 0-2 as it takes on Mammoth, a pair of promising rookies have their debut fights in Blade and Glitch, and Overhaul returns after three years away from the BattleBox.

As usual, please put any discussion of match results under spoiler tags until 24 hours after the episode airs out of consideration for people who can't watch the episode live, especially if you decide to watch the episode early on Discovery+ before it airs on TV. Showtime for us TV viewers is at 8PM EST tonight on Discovery Channel (about an hour from the time of this post) and stay on the lookout for the bonus fight on the BattleBots Youtube channel this coming Sunday.

Jackpot took out one of the lights in an impressive victory over Malice, which was awesome to see. Time for the battle of frogs vs. weebs, Ribbot vs. Overhaul is next.

A disappointing return for Overhaul, a disappointing debut for Blade, a surprising double knockout victory for Tombstone, and a shaky comeback win for Tantrum. Kind of a "meh" episode so far, but we still have two fights to go and I have a good feeling about Glitch.

I'm 7/7 on picks so far. Jackpot handled Malice like I thought it would, but it's good that Malice's weapon held up longer this time around. I definitely wasn't expecting Overhaul to win but I didn't expect that much of a dud. I feel a bit bad for both Lucky and Ghost Raptor since I think both probably could have won if they didn't free their opponents, but they did. I definitely won't be picking Glitch for a win any time soon going forward. Pretty disappointing. I also feel bad for Blade as they got maybe the worst possible match-up against Skorpios who basically owns all Horizontal spinners.

Now let's talk about that Main Event. What an absolute showing from Sawblaze who looks like a serious favorite for this whole thing. And Madcatter is still impressive despite being pretty throughly beaten. The fact that it maintained a working weapon through all that punishment is amazing.

That main event was a "show this to people to get them interested in BattleBots" kind of fight, and it needs to be spread around on social media as much as possible. It was entertaining, flashy, violent, and just a lot of fun. I think Sawblaze is one of the faces of the sport now, and I would love to see them finally bring home the giant nut.

Good sportsmanship will cost you matches.

Hammer saws are so powerful now. I like all these new blades that pierce harder than Quantum.

Regarding Lucky vs. Tantrum, I'm 100% convinced that Tantrum would have found a way to wiggle off of where it was stuck by firing its weapon and having the minibot nudge it a bit. I think Lucky knew that too, so they kept on the attack and tried to get an out of the arena flip to put away the fight early. It looked like a nice show of sportsmanship, but I think it was just Lucky knowing the fight wasn't over yet and staying aggressive.

Ghost Raptor, on the other hand... that was some combination of sportsmanship and them realizing that their fight would have ended up not good enough for TV and been cut if it ended like that. If they really wanted to win that fight, there was no reason for them to help Glitch get unstuck.

Chuck absolutely cost himself a win through his sportsmanship and that was really generous of him that Ghost Raptor is just not a good combat robot and that could very well have been his only win this season. On the plus side, my friend who was also perfect on his picks this episode started losing his mind each time Chuck showed mercy. It was fantastic.

Our 14 person pick'em league is pretty competitive.

With Lucky, I'm guessing they thought that Tantrum was about to free itself and wanted to get a shot in to potentially ring it out while it was still vulnerable. Obviously it didn't work. But I get it, watching the replays it did at least look like Tantrum was about to free itself.

Hammer saws used to be simply shoving a circular saw blade on your bot. Skorpios used to have this fragile little thing that could bend and dull itself.

Yeah I think the overall success of hammer saws is just through continuous trial and error. Sawblaze's original hammersaw was the first of its kind and its ability to damage was very readily apparent, but it was also heavy, unbalanced and prone to breaking. Each season they have refined it a little bit more. While also having bots like Skorpios adopt it and refine the concept as well. I feel like this year the hammersaw has really finally clicked.

I had been looking at the blade on Cobalt for a while and was wondering when a bot would come along and make it practical.

It's just below top tier but it never disappoints when it tries to tangle with them.

I love the team. It's like Mouser Mecha-Catbot found Randy Savage's bag of drugs.

Honestly, I think you can argue that Madcatter is a top tier bot at this point. He doesn't have bad losses.
