I'm agnostic(still spiritual) now but my upbringing was Catholic. Like holy shit, what if it's real? I don't want to burn/suffer for eternity. This is giving me a lot of anxiety right now.

It kind of is, according to some. Its more like not getting an invitation to the party than being condemned to eternal suffering. The latter would be inconsistent with Jesus teachings.

"Jesus Christ is is the only assurance" doesn't help either. Especially in the historical context where there have been several jesus like figures in religions that predate Christianity. It's all so confusing that it's more logical to claim it's BS. But then I have mornings like today when I think about it.

It's the "Golden Rule" without all the other BS that is attached with Religion. And even if it's making up my "own rule" (even though I wasn't the one to make it up) it's a great rule to live by.

My fate in the afterlife shouldn't be based on how often I go into a building with a cross on the roof to express how much I believe, or whether I put a $5 bill or a $20 bill in the collection plate, etc. If I get to the "pearly gates" and whoever the gatekeeper is doesn't let me in because I didn't put enough money in the collection plate, or I ate meat on Fridays during Lent, but was otherwise a great person, I'm not sure that's a place I want to spend my days eternal anyway.

I have ZERO fear of what happens to me when I die, because I live my life giving everyone the respect they are due, even if they do not deserve it.

Im praying for you, so stop worrying

What do you believe in, heaven or hell?
We dont believe in heaven cause we're living in hell!

It's made up, and most of it is stolen from other religions anyway. And even if it wasn't, it would still be preferable to being subservient to some self-proclaimed god.

There is no contradiction of it that applies any significant degree of logic and there are elements of it that I do know even if I can't know for certain the conclusion is 100% accurate. "Knowing" is just a formality at this point.

One way to rid yourself of this insidious dogma is to consider whether or not its really likely for an afterlife to exist in the first place. Futhermore, the idea of hell isnt intrinsic to the idea of God in the first place. This belief is due to the influence of the religions with which we are familiar, most commonly those that are prominent in our geographic vicinity. Thats not a good reason to take them any more seriously than other religions, which posit all sorts of things about what an afterlife would entail.

Theres no good reason to believe that a bunch of Bronze Age farmers had any insight into the mind of God.

If you believe Jesus Christ died on the cross and then rose from the grave you will have eternal life.

Judaism predates Christianity, and it doesn't have the concept of Hell. Meaning Hell either can't possibly exist, or God made it after the Old Testament was written.

I always felt like it wasn't literal, but hell is just no longer existing at all. When you die, your soul or spirit or whatever dies too. You get rewarded, or you get nothing.

I don't believe in any of it, regardless.
