Or is it just beating all the bosses plus the game? I haven't played an MM game in a while. I remember in the X games there were hidden powerups everywhere.

The additional power ups are all quality of life, so collecting them all is recommended.

All of the collectables are found hidden in stages. However once you give Auto his bolt (which you also have to find), then he can make most of them too.

The Super Adaptor and it's upgrade I feel are a must.

ProtoMan's shield is the least necessary and is really just there for 100% completion (imo).

Do you need certain weapons from bosses to find them? Or Rush transformations? I'll probably go through the stages again once I beat all bosses. I already figured I need some sort of flame weapon to get past the dark area in Shade Man's stage (for the candles).

There are four RUSH letters, one in each of the initial stages. Three you can get as is, but the last requires Freeze Cracker.

Rush Jet and Rush Search are sitting about and easy to spot. Three of the other collectables require Rush Search.

Auto's bolt is hidden in a stage and a stage hazard opens the path.

You can find Beat in another but you need Scorch Wheel. Also note that when you find Beat you don't just add him to your inventory. You need to free him first. I've seen players find him before then leave the area.

As for ProtoMan you need to locate him in three different stages.

Since you mentioned ShadeMan's stage, did you know you can beat VAN Pookin (the pumpkin miniboss) two different ways?
