My first time through the series, I found that he had the least going on in a cast of complex characters who all otherwise have personal connections to the station and the politics of Bajor, Cardassia, etc.

But upon rewatch, that's sort of the point. Everyone else in uniform are older officers that have each seen their share of horrible stuff. But Bashir is practically still a hoppy kid, filled with a scientist's naive interest about the opportunities brought by the edge of space and the wormhole. His shtick is his immaturity.

I find even though they claim it's unintentional and they hadn't thought of it yet, a lot of his episodes from early seasons come across differently after his genetics reveal.

Bashir was annoying at first but his friendship with Obrien made him a lot more likeable. Only bad one on DS9 was Jadzia who was the undefeated champ of horrible Star Trek characters

Oh my, I never thought she was that bad, especially after her relationship with Worf. She's a bit dry, but she comes with the complication of being like 800 years old do she's a pre-developed character. It's like if Guinan got more screentime on TNG.

I had to push myself to watch anytime she was involved because it was always so boring and she was so unlikable. It also felt like Worf was being punished for something when they forced that relationship

It honestly felt like they were trying to make up for the terrible Troi nonsense but failed again

Haha yeah DS9 really pushes Worf as a social conservative

I really enjoyed the friendship of Bashir and Garak. It was like a never ending game. Bashir and O'Brien was always funny as well.

In fairness, Jadzia was way shittier for most of that episode. He repeatedly made it clear that he didn't want to go to that planet and she tries to get him to "relax" by doing things he's not comfortable doing.
