I'd rather get cash than a gift card.

Because business america has somehow brainwashed everyone into thinking this.

Because with a gift card you are giving a company an interest free loan. Thats way better than cash.

I hate receiving gift cards.

They're either for places I rarely ever shop at, or else I forget I have them entirely.

In fact, I just used up a bunch of Target cards yesterday simply to get rid of them. There were three of them and they had no more than 5-10 bucks on each, and they've been sitting around for years...

Im prefer cash or gift cards because I expect people to otherwise give shitty gifts or regift shitty things they themselves didnt want.

What about Visa gift cards?

I've also got a McD's card and a Starbucks card, both places I never really go to...

And again, both cards have like maybe $5 on them. Just not worth the effort in using.

I always tell people who intend on giving me a gift to just give me the money they would have otherwise spent on an object in cash, because I'm rather difficult to shop for, and this eliminates any risk of them getting me something I'd have no use for.

This is actually the first time I've heard of it being considered tacky.
