Cuz of the internet, you can just about find anybody doing your favorite genre somewhere out there, and they're earning some pennies to justify keep doing it. Rock is still a base point for a lot of music, so hard to say if it's dead even in terms of popularity. Rock's peak, however, begun in the mid 1960s and kept going for about forty years at the least. Still, that something isn't popular does not mean it's dead. I think a genre is dead when it's not seen any new releases in many years. Vaudeville blues might be one such genre.
