This game makes me so motion sick I can only play for 30-60 minutes at a time. No other FPS games make me motion sick (8-bit 1st person dungeons do, but only in Wizardy-type stuff. Doom is fine. Wolfenstein 3D is fine). Other source games are fine, Portal and Team Fortress 2, no problems. I cannot look at a cell phone in a car for more than 2 minutes or it makes me sick, but I can read in a car no problem.

When it hits me, it hits fast and within 10 seconds I feel like I'm gonna puke. A few minutes later and im fine, but kinda feel a little wobbly for a few minutes.

FOV and mouse speed both effect it, but the 90 degree FOV in HL2 is still pretty small. I need the mouse a little slower than I want, and I have to not move the mouse around really fast, but those things help somewhat.

Found a post that explains why this game is such an offender. In HL2 your character moves a little bit after you stop moving, to make it kinda realistic but this just doesn't sit well with my brain and feels like sloshing. Moving around rapidly or running and spinning makes it worse. Plus the airboat section is really swooshy, that didn't help this morning.

I've gotten pretty far in this game (past Ravenholm, I remember), but never beaten it. Trying to beat it now, but it's pretty tough.

I've used the Dunebuggy in Garry's Mod but I don't think I got that far in the game.

Ravenholme is before the Dunebuggy. I remember because the game slows to a crawl for a bit after such an awesome chapter.

after. it takes a long time to get through the dunebuggy part. When you come the beach part with no buggy. Good luck. haha

I played it on the OGXbox way back when.
I had this group of friends that when one died you passed it to the next guy. We passed that controller around alot during the beach part

ikr

This last wave of nausea hasn't left me entirely yet. The airboat really fucks me up. If I think about playing HL2 it'll make me sick. Not like I will actually vomit but it's bad enough that I can't boot the game up.

Gonna play some Valorant and maybe that will sorta reset my motion sensors.

EDIT: Follow-up, one Valorant match and I feel a little "reset" and not motion sick.

Also, wondering if I could take Dramamine and not get motion sick. Don't really want to, though.

seems to be a fairly common issue with HL2 specifically for what ever reason.

I don't know if it applies here, but in VR you can build permanent tolerance to motion sickness by stopping the game as soon as you feel nausea and doing that over a moderate period of time.

My tolerance is definitely increasing. I do find that it is best to stop as soon as you feel sick, but sometimes it's not that bad and I just want to solve the current puzzle or whatever.

I'm already at max, 90 degrees, which is the same as TF2 and Portal (source engine games), but it's the dramatic camera movement in HL2 that is the real offender. Make no mistake, 90 is better than the default 75 degrees, but it's not wide enough. 105 or 110 would be nice and you can force the game to do that but it breaks a lot of the graphics and STILL doesn't fix the motion issue in HL2.

Can't you use console commands to embiggen the FOV?

OH never mind!

Finally made it past the airboat part! It's a really cool segment, and not the worst for motion sickness, btw. In some ways it's the small indoor areas, like the lab, which make you move the camera around that can be the problem.

insanity. that bridge alone was epic, almost like something out of shadow of the colossus.
