3-5 were trash, IMO, with maybe 3 or 5 being the worst because of so much Haruka (annoying, shit character), and Y4 being the most forgettable.

Y0 & Y7 were alright.

I liked the original two on the PS2, but I haven't played either of the Kiwamis, Y6, or the Judgments yet.

I think I never got around to liking any of the games in the series that had multiple protagonists.

I didn't feel like when they ultimately teamed up, that it felt organic, plus of course, some of the storylines were more interesting than the others.

so it wasn't necessarily a case of me disliking the other leads, because despite a bunch of my complaints, I like a lot of the characters, especially the leads (not Haruka, though).

Ishin is the best one.

I'd place 7 higher, but the turn based combat in that got old really fast for me. Made it feel like a chore to finish.

Kiwami has Majima everywhere and I liked the story a lot more than 2. Missing money and Nishiki's betrayal.

4 introduced my favorite character in the series, Akiyama, and it was the first game to do the multiple protagonists thing so it felt fresh. The story was pretty decent too until the last third of the game when it suddenly went to shit.

To me, 5 just felt like a copy and paste of 4 with less interesting characters. I enjoyed the idol minigames but other than that it was kind of a slog to get through

I kind of barely understood how it all came together at the end in 5 when I first played it, but yeah I cannot remember any details anymore.

I would not put 6 at the top, but glad to see some love for it. Had some odd story beats, but I thought it was damn good, not that there's a bad Yakuza game imo.

All the above. Kiryu and Haruka's relationship is one my favorite in gaming. I agree her part in 5 was trash,but it's worth it to me

Haruka suuuuuucks

Man. Do you guys just not care for kids that aren't wartorn killers in games? Lol. I didn't know people didn't like Haruka. I love how they didn't try to make her tough. We already got that story too many times. Her life is far more interesting than another kid getting into gritty shit be ause the older influence.

I dislike Haruka because she literally only exists to be a plot device, and completely loses all her agency as the series goes on. She's not a character, she's a cheap vehicle for Kiryu moments

I was legitimately asking. Cause all the beloved younger characters are usually of the sort. I dunno what's so different about Haruka aside from her not being a combat oriented character.

I don't get this at all. What does that even mean in this context? I feel like you can say that about anyone who's not a main character in a game if you wanted to attempt to degrade their impact. There's no real meaning behind that claim. Feels like a real relationship to me. I don't know what exactly you're specifically looking for. She was a big part of the story since the beginning. If she was more front and center, it would just be an annoyance since she's not involved in Yakuza stuff. It makes more sense to have her off screen doing stuff like running the orphanage

It's great

3 was my first Yakuza way back when it was first localized and it got me into the series. That said it's such a dumpster fire plot wise

Meanwhile I have very positive nostalgic feelings for 4, and like someone said before it had a really great story working up until it failed to stick the landing and ended up a bit of a mess itself. That said I still love it.

0 definitely has the tightest story of the mainline Yakuza games I've played (no LAD yet). Nice thing about that one was they didn't try to shoehorn in the REAL big bad at the very end. Just let the bad guys be bad guys. I don't need it to be revealed that the Catholic Church was actually the ones trying to get their hands on a small plot of land in Tokyo or something like that.

Aw tbh I love 3s writing lol. I think Mine is an excellent character, and has really great screen presence. It was slow to start, but when the game gets going it really gets going

4 is among my favorites, bummer to see it at or near the bottom in every ranking. No denying theres a nostalgia factor there, though. I still like the PS3 trilogys combat the most and while 5 did improve and expand upon 4, 5s story is a sprawling mess and I really didnt like how a lot of it played out.
