Wont let me connect it to my phone, says activation lock. Is making me sign in with the original iCloud account that set up the Watch in the first place. Have tried messaging the selller, and she said she removed it from her iCloud account.

Would reporting her to the police even do anything? I spent like $180 on this phone and cant use it. Pretty pissed. What should I do, CE?

Youre better off contacting whatever platform you met her through so she cant sell anything. Police probably wont do anything about this.

This is something you gotta check before paying her bro. A stolen Apple product is basically a brick.

I did report her through Offer Up. I did check it out before purchasing though, and the Watch was reset. Didnt need a passcode or anything to put in. I turned it on, and it was basically brand new, asked for my language and all that. Wasnt until I tried pairing it to my phone when it was giving me those activation lock notices :(

Do you think bringing it to an Apple store would help? They could at least look up the serial number and tell if it was for sure stolen? Maybe can even get it back to the original owner at least.

If you want it unlocked at an Apple store you need proof of purchase which you arent getting from the thief. This is why you only buy from real stores and not craigslist or whatever

you expect a space marine to beam down from his starship and blast the thief with his laser rifle? It prevents anyone using the device they paid for. The owner made the decision to wipe it instead of tracking it to try and get it back. Or maybe the thief wiped it themselves and the owner didnt get a choice in the matter. TC not checking if it was stolen or not before paying isnt the owners fault or something a software feature can fix

take it to an apple store tell them the situation and see if they can find a way to return it to the original owner. It sucks that youre out that money, i would be pissed as hell.

yeah thats the plan. I at least have the messages of me buying it from a 3rd party so no one can accuse me of stealing it.

Im bashing Apple for not making it obvious its a locked phone. You shouldnt be able to factory reset the watch while its still linked to someone elses Apple ID. There was ZERO indication on the watch itself that it was activation locked when I checked it out before buying.

Your screenshot says it was lost and erased

Removing it from the account is not enough. You have unpair it properly or the owner has to go to iCloud.com and remove it from find my iPhone

The lock she is describing is not what is happening at all. Carrier locks don't look like that, and a carrier lock is like the first thing that will pop up when setting up a device. She just doesn't know how to actually remove a device from her account.

I ended up by telling her that I hope a stolen Apple Watch was worth her child growing up without a mom as she sits in jail for stealing

The only reason I think it probably isn't stolen is the fact she ever replied to you at all. People that sell stolen shit don't usually stick around and keep talking to the person they just ripped off. They usually just disappear.

Yeah this reply is definitely from someone who stole the watch but wants to make you feel bad so you dont call the cops. If it was really carrier locked (which it probably isnt) and she knew about it, she is still scamming you.

thats messed up. Not gonna do that. I did read that GameStop will take watches and phones, locked or not. They give $168 cash or $220 store credit. Might try taking it there.

They probably send them back to apple to be refurbished anyways and get paid through apple. Apple will just wipe the hardware and set it up as a new watch.

yeah Im skeptical too but I read somewhere online that GameStops policy is theyll take locked or unlocked devices. Idk if true but I hope so.

Places that take broken or locked stuff use them for parts.
