right?

As soon as everyone is onboard and there is no competition and there is no alternative - once all those games you "subscribe" for the right to play (but don't actually own) will start to bump up the price. $20 per month, $25 per month, $30 per month, $35 per month.

This is Wal-mart strats.

And you'll pay it. You pay that money, because of sunken cost fallacy.

And in 10 years you won't have a single thing to show for it.

Whatever. Do whatever floats your boat. A fool and their money are soon separated.

Does the time I spent playing Yakuza 0, one of my favorite games of all time, count as a thing to show for it?

This. If the price is doubled to $20 per month. I would pay $240 per year. That is 4 $60 games per year but I get access to far more games. Its still a great deal. That is if games stay at $60 which we see is changing

It's like watching a lot of movies but not owning any movies. I want to be able to re-visit my favorites down the line. Permanence.

The nice thing about Game pass is that if it gets too expensive you can always go back to just buying the individual games.

It's not really much of a deal if it's just a bunch of microsoft's games who have added nothing to the gaming industry but shooters and dlc. But for people who like the halos and call of shooter type games, I'm sure it's a steal

Uhh its a business model. Bring in people with cheap prices, probably at a loss of breaking even to later up prices for profits. As long as theres value to it its fine. Netflix being 15-20 is still good value to me.

Except for the fact that if game pass gets too expensive, people will just go back to buying games outright.

There's tons of games on Game Pass but realistically most people will only end up seriously playing through a few.

If you're so sure of that then sell them - for re-sale value. Of which Game Pass has none.

I'll be honest. It's 2022. The era of owning physical games is rapidly disappearing. It's pretty much already gone if you are a PC player. I know people want to desperately hold on to this dream of owning their physical media but that dream will be gone very soon. Hell, even most physical games you buy require internet to download a day one patch now a days. Before long, console will be like PC. You will end up downloading every game. Many people on PC don't even have disk drives anymore.

While some is more than none, the main reason I don't sell most of my old games and consoles is because it isn't worth the effort.

My time is worth more to me than the tiny financial incentive of selling old games.

If I was going to go through the trouble of selling dozens of old-ass games I would have done so by now. But on the point of what I have to show for 20+ years of buying games, that's it. Game Pass honestly feels a bit freeing because I can just complete a game and move on forever.

Depending on how much gaming you do, there's still a good chance your savings with game pass will make up for lost resale value. But without the hassle of selling the thing. It is almost certain competing services will keep game pass at a competitive price in the future as well if the business model is successful.

I'm a physical gamer myself. I accept I pay a premium to collect plastic bull shit.

I thought immediately when the Series S was revealed that there would be a $45 tier that got you the service and the Series S as a throw-in. Given all the Series S collecting dust, they should actually do that.

I mean, in this scenario with no competition and no alternative $35/mo sounds like a pretty good deal for every video game there is

also physical games wont still be being made in 15-20 years anyway, if not sooner

It's definitely not a bad purchase for someone that just wants to play the newest games and doesn't care about having the absolute best specs on the market.

I think it's dominant model in Japan for Xbox. And accounts for their modest success in the region. I heard this a while back though, so I don't have a source on it.

if they raise the price too much i'll just unsubscribe when i'm not using it and resub when i wanna play something on there. it's at the sweet spot right now where it's cheap enough for me to ignore it when i'm not using it, which is the exact situation these streaming services want us to be in.
