They're really not. For one, they look silly and their augmentations don't feel very Star Warsy. They feel more like Star Trek or Alita or something.

Their vehicles are just...horrendous. They don't fit the aesthetic of Tatooine, and unless they're painting those things every day they shouldn't be sparkling. Part of Star Wars' charm, at least in the OT, was its gritty kinda rusty, junker aesthetic in everything except for the high-class ships and mass produced Empire stuff.

I feel like the Pod Racing scene in TPM did a way, way better job of showing us what "car culture" people would be like on Tatooine, and they should have kept that aesthetic: Smoky, rusty, dirty, the engines all chugging heavily. Customized and exposed machinery, like real rat rod stuff.

They're supposed to be poor and can't afford water but not only do they have extremely expensive cybernetics but they also have the only four-set of shiny, freshly painted scooters on the entirety of Tatooine. There's no other vehicle on the planet that looks like theirs, and that contributes even more to making them feel super out of place.

That said, I don't think they're out of place in Star Wars in general, just... seriously out of place on Tatooine. If they showed up in a series set on Coruscant then I don't think people would have been up in arms at all, but snappily dresser cyborg teenagers on shiny colourful bikes just doesn't go with the Tatooine aesthetic at all.

I mean, when all droids and vehicles look severely weathered by the environment except for their shiny bikes, it does stand out a lot.

This show is definitely a step down from Mandalorian so far.

Especially with those color coordinated hover-Vespas that they could somehow afford even though they live in a poor city and had to steal water.

Edit: Rest of it is sick though. Yes, it's slow, but a lot of shows are to begin with. I think they're doing a great job world building. The Mandalorian was slow to start imo and that turned out great.

Yeah I liked the gang even though they didn't exactly seem like your typical person from Tatooine.

It's trying to tell two stories at once, which rarely works well.
