Well there is a growing market and demand for vegan products which can replicate the texture and taste of meat, and KFC obviously believed they could get some vegan customers with this product. Some of these products on the market are apparently decent, but you're not the first person I've heard say KFC's beyond chicken product is terrible though

If you thought about this for 5 seconds Im sure you could come up with a theory.

I think it's the KFC seasoning that makes people interested in trying it as a vegan. Some people are loving it too. I thought they were pretty meh.

Apparently they got the taste right, obviously the KFC seasoning, but I've heard people say it has the texture of rubber

Do people really go to KFC expecting vegan food?

Our KFC's in Canada are often mixed with a Taco Bell, and TB has been selling vegan food for a minute. My friend is vegan and swears by the vegan burritos there.

So I dunno about the US, but here they'll just be expanding a menu that already has vegan options.

if you don't like it, don't buy it. it's only a problem if it's so popular they stop selling the real stuff. i don't see that happening any time soon.

I mean, they've historically hated almost any fast food chain in particular, in addition to the meat industry as a whole on a wide scale for not just using animals as food, but inhumane treatment of animals before slaughtering, and even inhumane slaughtering methods. Is there a specific reason or incident (which I'm unaware of) why the vegan community would have any additional hatred toward KFC specifically?

But they arent even cooking it in a vegan way since itll go in the oil the chicken cooks in.

i'll also add that "vegan" fast food options are not really being advertised towards actual vegans. it's more for the flexitarian crowd, which is relatively big among young people

KFC specifically got called out for factory farm conditions, but it honestly might have been a PETA thing or whatever that I've misremembered into a larger scale protest.

The grocery store I go to replaced the frozen hamburger section with vegan burgers.

That's a bit interesting. But does your grocery store's meat section sell pre-made burger patties made from fresh ground meat, steak, or chuck? If so, and my grocery store does, it could effectively eliminate the demand for frozen beef patties at that particular store if you can pick you can pick up some preformed steak burgers

As a vegan yea the texture is what brings it down. Its too meaty with whatever alternative product KFC is using to make the nuggets that the seasoning doesnt help. Ive had a lot better alternative vegan products that were supposed to mimic chicken than this.

More expensive
not as healthy as real chicken (not even fast food chicken)
more calories than real chicken (even fast food chicken)
doesnt taste as good
worse texture

whats the point? It needs another few years in the lab to solve all of the above

From what I've heard, this happens if you don't eat them right away.

Report of the week did a review and he physically couldnt bite through.

I heard they cook it in the same grease they cook real chicken in. That may explain some of the flavor.

My 2 cents worth is that if I'm going to a chicken joint, I'm friggin gettin' chicken.

Even the good things they've done with regards to animal testing, farm standards, the fur trade, amusement parks, fly by night zoos, circuses, and carnivals, and other instances of animal cruelty?
