Yeah, I need some kind of feedback from it. I saw a lot of people in WoW say they turned off the game audio completely and I just don't know how you play like that.

Absolutely stupid. If I ever played a game long enough to get sick of the music, I'd turn the music down and keep the effects on.

No sound at all is absolutely pathetic. Some wussies even listen to pod casts while they play.

I don't see the big deal. Not all games require sound to be enjoyed.

I've played the game before though, I know what it sounds like.

I miss being able to play music saved onto the console during a game and it auto overriding the regular music.

Anyways I've only ever done it if I was actively trying to be quiet. Rather to not wake someone up or cause I was a kid and supposed to be sleeping

You can kind of do this with Spotify on Xbox (no idea about PS4/5)

It depends on what it is. If Ive played it before, theres a huge chance I turn the sound off while watching TV if Im playing switch.

It's fun with some games. Payday 2, TF2, Dark Souls 1, New Vegas.
Sometimes I like to have a 40min-1 hour video on in the back and then at a lower volume behind it, a playlist or one song on loop.

I don't really watch movies anymore but it does work with subtitles on.

I've only briefly messed around with Spotify. Didn't seem like I could pick songs just genres. That would bug me if that's really how it is

You do you man. I'm not interested in ruining my game immersion or turning it down at all for no reason. I can do the things that I like seperately, without compromising the other.

I can play games with no sounds especially when I'm listening to music or on the phone I find it pleasant actually.

I was playing smite and cold War today with no audio and just my music.

To be fair those games are brainless and have no story anyway so big deal. Obviously you can get good at them and attain high level skill but for what reward? You aren't immersing yourself in an amazing world or cast of characters or anything like that so meh. Might as well. Though the CoD games have surprisingly good single player campaigns but you're likely playing the typical modes that everyone else mindlessly plays.

That's another game that wouldn't really immerse you so to speak. It's basically a puzzle game. I'm more talking about people playing an RPG with the sound down or any other genre of game where the soundtrack and sounds are obviously part of the game. Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, the new God of War, you name it.

Imagine playing Ocarina of Time while you play rap music and have the game itself muted. That's what I think is stupid.

Sometimes the music or sound effects gets so obnoxious that you want to turn it off. Thats what i do.

If I'm grinding something out in like a JRPG or whatever, I don't need to hear the same shit for hours on end.

I had a Snes classic at a friend's house and we played contra 3 which was a badass soundtrack but he refused to listen video game music so we had to listen to calming electronic music to go along with contra.

I do this sometimes if it's getting really grindy. Like sometimes the game's soundtrack is fine for that. Other times I want to shoot the game with a gun because I'm getting pretty tired of this theme DRAGONQUEST XI.

No? How many times are you playing the game? Some games I have beaten like 30 times but I do so throughout the years.

A good example is MGS3. Would I want to mute that game ever? Only if I played it ten times in the same week which is not something I would do. When I'm done with a game I play a different game or I don't play at all. If I'm getting tired of the music, I'm probably tired of the game. If not, the music is ass and the game probably sucks too. I can't think of any game that has a shit soundtrack with good gameplay.

I will say though, I should have elaborated that I mostly mean on a first and or story based playthrough. I still wouldn't mute any game and I still think it sounds awful, but some instances are the exception.

For example Devil May Cry 4 Bloody place mode forces you to hear the same battle song start 1000 times and the pussy enemies die before the song even gets to the middle most of the time. That's annoying even though I love the OST. This is forcing the song to play a million times and it sucks. Exceptions do exist. Also by the time you're playing this mode in any DMC game you aren't compromising the single player experience.

Well one of the earlier posters mentioned games like Payday which I thought "obviously not missing any good story here or an amazing world" but then they said Dark Soils and New Vegas and so I continued thinking and saying "yeah no, that's ridiculous"

I would most likely let it stay on for the first playthrough. If I was being made to play some sort of walking simulator or "game" that prided itself on being a cinematic experience though, I'd likely have my backup soundtrack ready to go.

Yeah, I've known people that do that on single player games. I couldn't do it. I like the music that goes with the cutscenes and the battles. Adds to the immersion.

It actually makes sense for MMO's though. When you're in the same map, killing the same monsters for hours, the background music gets really repetitive. Like for a lot of the mid 2000's Korean made MMO's, you'd typically spend 30-50 hours in one map, before moving on to a new training spot. I don't want to hear one track on loop for that long lol

I played the Shadow Temple in Ocarina of Time with the sound off, because that is a level of nightmares.

Ah. Well if you're wondering about Dark Souls, my character's hollowing has the added side effect of causing him to hear 80s dance tracks constantly. It's quite immersive in how it explains that despite being a shambling husk fending off rigor mortis, dancing constantly helps him stay healthy and agile.

Yeah if it's a first playthrough I gotta keep the sound on in case there's an audio cue to draw your attention to something or new music. There are so many great tracks in games and it'd be a shame to miss out on a good one. And the music can really help set the mood, whether the plot is important to the game or not.

Sometimes once I've beaten a game and am doing another playthrough or going back to find stuff I missed, I'll turn the sound off and listen to something else. If it's a game with audio cues for combat or for finding secrets, I'm likely to keep the sound on anyway.
