Once you start getting to the Bounties the fights are pretty damn harsh.

They're mostly optional, though.

Piastol 1 is downright dirty for how early you can do it too.

Piastol doesn't, but all the other optional bosses level up as you do, so grinding doesn't make them any easier.

(In some cases, you may be better off taking them on ASAP. And you'll get the rewards sooner that way too)

Going off a site that actually tracks confirmed sales, neither the gc or dreamcast CIB has sold for more than $150 in months.

Yes. Driln/Drilnos is helpful in a couple of ship battles, but in normal battles Yellow is pretty worthless.

Magic is useless right now and Aika's Lamba attack is no good anymore. Gonna grind it out until my SP starts at 14 so I can spam Vyse's sword of the raining instead.

If you get lucky and the enemies all stand in a line, Electrulen is pretty useful and looks awesome.

But magic is so outclassed by special attacks that if you're playing optimally, yeah, it's bad.

Oh man, nothing is more gratifying than hitting that 14 SP per round threshold...

The problem with Lambda Burst (and indeed, all of Aika's special moves) is that it's Will based rather than Power based.
So enemies that have high Resistance (like those damn Loopers) aren't as affected by it.
They're also Red based, so enemies that resist Red magic also aren't as affected by Aika's moves

Rain of Swords is Power based, so it doesn't have that issue

Game has not aged well. I put many many hours into this game as a kid, and went tey to replay it within the last year and it couldn't hold me anymore. Not sure how it'd be for a first time playthrough though since I can't ever have that again. But would love to see it remade

Game has not aged well. I put many many hours into this game as a kid, and went tey to replay it within the last year and it couldn't hold me anymore. Not sure how it'd be for a first time playthrough though since I can't ever have that again. But would love to see it remade

Kinda wish 3 of the characters werent mandatory in all battles.

woulda been cool to run with Vyse/Aika/Drachma/Gilder.

I hate these high evasive monsters. Fighting Kanezl and the wiki says magic like Pyrum works on them but they don't. Shits more annoying than anything else.

I think it's more that multi-target magic effectively gives you more attacks per turn. So having a everyone cast Pyrum or Noxus lets your whole party attack every enemy, so eventually something will stick.

Have everyone cast Pyrum? Yeah we're not gonna do that.

Yeah been spamming that on these fucking annoying monsters with high evasive. Can't wait until I can start off with Falling of RainSwords on these enemies.

You didn't grind? How else you beat these strong optional bosses? I love over grinding in JRPGs.

They scale with you if I remember correctly, also in the last act you can make Vyse hella OP without leveling him up. Beat th final boss in like two hits

Fantastic game. Played through it on Dreamcast.
I'm kind of tempted to get my Dreamcast out and play some stuff, but if I can find the GameCube version for cheap that would be even better

It didn't reduce it enough. The only game where I went out of one random battle into another one without even getting to move.

10/10 game. I mostly played it on Dreamcast.

Yes, on the pirate base there's a vendor who sells consumable permanent stat increase items and you can basically do infinite damage

That said I have a hard time getting into RPGs with random encounters these days.

There's a hidden island above the abyss that has Loopers and stuff in it, but friendly. One of them tracks how many times you've run from Battle, so I literally had a playthrough where I'd never ran from battle. Not even once.

The encounter rate is normal compared to other JRPGs such as Wild Arms, 7th Saga or even Suikoden. It's not the encounter rate that sucks, it's how long each fight is. The animation for Lamdba whatever takes fucking forever.

Yep, I always think since I search every little corner in the cities, dungeons and stuff like that that I'll have a high percentage of chest opened but when I check with that guy that tells me the percent of chests that I've opened, I'll always be like at 85% percent near the end of the game .... I'm just like "how?" am I missing an additional dungeon or city or something? lol

The chests in dungeons are the easy part. It's the ones tucked away in towns that are the problem.

You need to get 100% of chests (among other things) to get the "Legend" swashbuckler rating.

You don't actually need the Legend title for this. But IIRC you do need at least 90% of all chests

Bought it on a whim years ago when I bought a Dreamcast, just so I can play Grandia 2. Should get around to playing it one of these days.

I notice the encounter rate has increased a ton in the east lands. Maybe it's just me? Already maxed out all SP and magic is nearly learned for all characters.
