Met them online and have been chatting regularly for months. We hit it off instantly and talked about everything. We'd talk about personal things and she'd ask me questions and listen to my problems, and I thought it was just normal friendly stuff.

Got a message yesterday that she was becoming the therapist in our friendship and that she needs to worry about her own health, and then blocked me on all platforms before I could even retort.

I know it's dumb to get upset over an online friend, but we had so much in common. It felt like the luckiest chance meeting. Cutting me off like I was some loser you felt bad for until they got annoying is just a slap in the face.

When she inevitably unblocks you and starts messaging you again, don't respond to her at all ok. Promise me you won't respond to her, do it!!!

If someone feels that they're the primary "giver" in a relationship and they need to pull back then that's valid IMO

A girl I know does this regularly to people. It's weird af. Usually it's a build up of her being frustrated and not expressing herself. Then she'll get stressed out from her own shit and just melt down.

Somehow I end up being the 'therapist' in 80% of my friendships, people tell me I'm a very good listener but I'm just bad at talking.

I ghost people because I'm a shitty person

She asked and listened and responded. I expressed a number of times that I didn't want to turn this into therapy, and wanted to lighten the mood. She actually left a shared community just the other day and complained to me about how it was toxic and she met all the people she needed to out of it. She told me directly that I didn't need to worry.

I don't want to talk to her again. I just wish I had my time back instead of being strung along. Hadn't connected with someone online like this in over a decade and it was bullshit.

I feel this is common with online friendships. You ultimately dont establish a reliably secure connection with others. As soon as you get tired of someones shit or feel its not worth your time its easy to press a couple buttons and make the changes you desire.

This story was predictable by the first sentence. Sorry TC, it happens and will probably happen again. You'll get used to it because that's just our culture now.

Yeah. Shows how little trust there actually was, which makes me wonder for who's benefit exactly it was to talk to me all that time. Could have said something at any time or ghosted me forever ago. Her last message made it sound like she couldn't leave me hanging because I was so pathetic or whatever. I never asked for that.

And the blocking truly is just chickenshit. I could have given her space or just moved on. Again, shows how off I was about what we thought of each other.
