I wish I could say I man'd up at the end but no, I seriously teared up big time More than Yoda in ROTJ and Gandalf in Fellowship. Now I realize why I haven't seen it in a very long time because of that.

No comic book movie based on Marvel or in general has still come close to that movie's level of conveying emotional impact, brutality, and gritty storytelling.

Masterpiece.

Yeah, I really goddamned loved that movie. I cried a bit at the end, and that was pre-hormones. Pretty sure I would go all out if I watched it today.
Just an incredible film all the way through, full of these great little moments, right from the beginning. The tired, exasperated way Logan addresses the hooligans in the beginning, the way he tries to read small print, squints, and sheepishly gets out reading glasses. Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Dafne Keen just crush every single damned second of that film, and there isn't a bad performance or wasted moment to be found anywhere.

I hope that attempts at prestige-level films in comic book movies wasn't a short lived trend. Joker wasn't the best, but it was fine. Logan is a fucking masterpiece.

Logan owes a lot not only to the OG X-Men movie, but also the sequels and spin-offs for making us want more Jackman. On that note, have you seen Deadpool 2 yet? It has more than a fair bit of references directly to this film, which is pretty cool. The juxaposition of comedy with drama helps drive home the memory of both movies on my end. Loved Logan & 'Pool 2.

As one of the few that doesn't like how the xmen movies became so Jackman centric, Logan was still amazing to me. I didn't want more Jackman, but I wanted him here.

I tried not to think about that DP2 bit because that would've ruined the weight of such a bleak yet powerfully moving ending. It's a profound notion that Mangold flat out shut all the windows and doors for any hint of a conclusion that there would be more movies.

As far as grim-toned, dramatic superhero movies go, that ship has sailed and it's over for Marvel. Logan was a Fox production that gave Mangold full reigns to do exactly what he wanted. That isn't happening ever again because in a post-multiverse state of fiction, literally no one cannot die or stay dead anymore imo.

Ehh it was okay. Never liked it a great deal, cool concept but the movie was like a tepid 7/10 when I saw it. Perfectly fine, but not a fave.

Actually, I'm pretty happy with the MCU. Joker was a fun ride and Shazam grew on me too. Seeing Logan bite the dirt wasn't nearly as emotional as watching him and Xavier suffer however. Both of them died in the middle of nowhere basically, surrounded by confused outsiders, and you have to wonder.... Are these characters people who ultimately wasted their lives, and what kind of impact did they have on the world they inhabit? That's especially profound for me because they have had a massive impact on our world, both in terms of entertainment & movie making, but also helping to shape the lives and personalities of the real people who have now grown up watching them fight bad guys on film, struggling through relatable emotions, for their entire lives.

What I noticed within the movie under the surface is that it did tie up many of those themes and allegorical elements scattered all over like the X-Men comic deconstruction, to the role reversal relationship between Logan and Charles, Laura beginning her new life in Canada where Logan lived, Logan fighting his past demons via X-24, and redeeming "himself" with X-23, Charles' last day on earth with family, etc.

So yeah, all these struggles and arcs these characters dealt with throughout the movies were brilliantly addressed and resolved even though if you think about it, it does seem like it's channelling those similar themes in No Country For Old Men how their time was finally up, what did it all amount to and so on...I wish more Marvel characters were treated three-dimensionally like that.

Iron Man was kind of close as it got, but a middle-aged, womanizing ego jerk dealing with alcoholism and possible drug use while reflecting on his hero image isn't exactly 2 hour entertainment for Marvel

amazing movie.

it's also, surprisingly, one of the funnier comic book movies, even with its overall tone.

CBM humor is often hit or miss, for me, but the humor in Logan got me every time.

That's what made his sacrifice in Endgame so effective. Guy had so much to live for, but it was basically all hyper-personal bullshit. Thanos, the armor, and the fate of the universe don't care about any of that stuff

Even when it's not a solo movie, he's generally a larger part than he should in the movies.

Logan was great, and reminds me to recommend people to watch the movies in my recommended "Adamantium" order

X-Men First Class
X1
X2
X3
The Wolverine (Optional)
X-Men Days of Future Past (Regular cut or Rogue cut, depending on preference)
Logan

Ignore all of the others

Oh right funny thing I forgot he's RIP dead forever but only because RDJ is done so I guess Marvel is capable of killing off versions of a major character forever.

That's partially the same reason we're meant to expect Jackman not to return to the role. His age lent a real gravity to the performance & fate of the character.
