Is it the mobile game mechanics?

People dont like the gacha and focus on waifus and other anime tropes.

I love it though.

Terrible story, characters, and gameplay

RNG used on which "blade" you get was real annoying.

sidequests are vapid and boring

combat becomes a tedious slog

But, 100% of XBC2.

It's the worst of the three Xenoblade games IMO, but it's still pretty good. But the gacha crap, blatant fanservice, and heavy anime tropes did it no favors. Also, the enemies are HP sponges because the game wants you to use Blade and Driver combos constantly.

Also, the areas are smaller and tend to be less open than in the past games.

I made a post in a topic last week about XC2 complaining that I get rekt in a giant field just trying to get to point A and point B because every enemy is ridiculously strong. And this is early on when you get to Nias village

My biggest issue with it was the stupid gacha mechanics. Chance to get a core from enemies, then a chance to get a good summon from the core. Just RNG on top of RNG. It added unnecessary grind to the game.

Then there were smaller issues like the changes to the combat system making battles really slow in the early game.

The major one that I see (and kinda agree with) is that it starts really slow and takes a while to get better. Quite a few games have that problem though.

High expectations too. It's not that it's a bad game. It's easily got the deepest combat of the series for sure, but weakest story and characters. Plus waifu/gacha mechanics.

Overleveld aggro dudes is a terrible method of area-denial, especially when they all have a 'melee' range of functionally infinite. Getting spotted means getting dead, and running away accomplishes nothing.

Also the game pops tutorials for core game mechanics hours before it's actually meaningful, without any method of viewing them again outside of youtube or something.

I spent the majority of what I bothered to play mostly just spamming Anchor Shot and letting the AI just do everything. Break/Topple/Launch never worked as described, nor did elemental combos, and I just gave up on the game after "losing the cutscene" in the mercenary town.

Its great.
